I was thinking about some of you and how we met. I don't have a good
enough memory to tell how I met all of you, but I have fun memories of my
first meetings with several of you.

If you feel like it, post a comment telling about the first time we met.
Tell everything you remember about it, even if it's just that I mangled
your name or that you were wearing your favorite blue boots.

Hmmm, I'm having an urge to write some Penthouse-letters-style outrageous nonsense fluff, but don't think I could totally pull it off right now! So I will have to mention the 1/12/2003 dim sum party.

Things I remember from meeting you that day:

You ordered off the menu so you could have vegetarian stuff. I think you may have gotten some sort of broccoli thing.

You didn't look anything like I imagined you. I was expecting the colorful hair, but somehow you looked different from my vague mental image.

You were quieter than I thought you'd be.

You were fucking *exhausted*. I don't remember why.

Yeah, this is why (http://www.livejournal.com/users/pyrzqxgl/6277.html) I was exhausted. And now your latest post (http://www.livejournal.com/users/serenejournal/459534.html) says that *you're* always exhausted.

Awwwww.

(My exhaustion is set to end in 15 days. Yay!)

I was walking home from breakfast at the Vault with [livejournal.com profile] alanbostick and [livejournal.com profile] wild_irises. They recognized you and [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy, and we crossed the street to talk. You said, "I was just wondering who was the hot redhead with Debbie and Alan."

Meeting you made me happy because I already thought you were cool, and because you said nice things to me, and because I love living somewhere that I can run into polyamorous friends on the street.

The actual conversation that preceeded our meeting (I didn't realize at the time that I knew anyone in your party):

Me: "Hot redhead alert at ten o'clock."
[livejournal.com profile] someotherguy: "Hey, isn't that [livejournal.com profile] wild_irises and [livejournal.com profile] alanbostick?"

Sorry for objectifying you. ;-)

I don't *remember* the first time we met, although it would have to have been at one of Mary's parties. You're just one of those constants in my life, one of my people (thank goodness! :)).

*beam*

I am wracking my brain to try to think of when we met. Yeesh. Oh, well. What you said. :-)

Oh, this one's easy:

I stepped off the shuttle at the Holiday Inn by the Bay, looked to my right and went "It's Sereeeeeeeene!. Fawning fangirl squee and everything. Almost forgot to go back and get my suitcase from the shuttle driver.

From: [identity profile] serenejournal.livejournal.com
I don't remember the squee-ing. :-) I remember thinking you seemed distracted, and that you looked *exactly* like your photos. Also, that you are much shorter than I expected you to be.

From: [identity profile] kightp.livejournal.com
The squeeing may have been internal. (-:

I'm right at the average height for American women (5'5.5"), but I'm told that I read tall.

It was the day after Thanksgiving last year, at your place. Charlotte brought me to your Friday thing. I was wearing a long brown dress. I didn't expect you to be so cute! I felt truly hosted. You seemed to be very happy that I was there. One of the things I like about you is that you are so gracious as a hostess. I was exhausted and jetlagged, and you acted as if I were acting completely normal.

From: [identity profile] serenejournal.livejournal.com
Didja ever think that maybe in my circles, exhausted-and-jetlagged looks like normal behavior? ;-)

I felt so tickled that you two wanted to be there, and I've been a fan of your writing for so long. I remember the dress. I remember thinking your hair was preternaturally beautiful. I remember (and it's happened since) that way you perk up when someone talks, so the person feels reallytruly listened-to.

Jeez, Serene, you're making me cry. The thing I long to be better at is listening, so I feel like I must be making so progress if you wrote that.

Fortunately, I have 10 minutes before my 2 PM student shows up, and I can pretend to be normal (heh. that word again) by then.

You're a joy to be around, and [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy will back me up on this. :-) (Just don't go getting *too* normal on us.)

I'm not very good at remembering this sort of thing. Did we meet first at a party at [livejournal.com profile] rmjwell's and RA's? Or did we meet first at [livejournal.com profile] mactavish's party? I guess it was [livejournal.com profile] mactavish's. I remember making sure CPC had a chair to sit in.

Yep. I remember sitting in a little cluster with you and cute-poet-chick. I remember thinking your mock-pout was cute. I remember cringing at an interaction you and the OH had over some fritos or cheetos or something. I remember spending WAY too much energy making sure cute-poet-chick was happy, which didn't work, because we had a huge, almost-breakup fight on the way home.

I know I have, I know it was at an APC, but I don't know which one. 9 or 10; probably in the 'intro yourself' thing that happens at the very beginning. I don't know!

I missed the intro panel at apc9, but I did meet you at that apc. We didn't spend much time together, however. It's always so hard to see everyone one wants to.

at the home of loracs, stonebender & dbubley (I don't know how to make those into ID tags in a reply). when? before you moved to the northern half of the state, during one of your ever more frequent visits to your then new sweetie stonebender. you were that woman who was making stonebender so damn happy. and you were/are so sweet and warm and interested in getting to know me that it was easy to visit and get to know you. and you played so well with Gilly I had no idea you were not a dog person ("my ball").

I was so fucking happy to meet you, and felt like we knew each other already. You also felt like a lot of my mom's side of the family. You have "new york jew" vibes to me. :-)

And it IS my ball. She just doesn't know it.

(You make the tags the same way as in a post: <lj user=clever_doberman>

when you moved up here! :-) after years of wombat-ary, you moved up the year after i did and had a party. i showed up. you still have the plant i gave you. i was ever so pleased to meet you in person after years of typing... you were and are just so kind. you rock!

Date: 2005-11-05 12:56 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] serenejournal.livejournal.com
Fern (the plant you gave me) was just gifted to a rockin' babe who moved out on her own after a yucky breakup. I figured I got so much happiness out of Fern that the rockin' babe would appreciate the symbolism, and she did. (She has a beautiful new green pot, too. The plant, not the babe.)

You picked me up and shuttled me to the hostel for the San Diego Womboink. I was quite nervous and you were so easy to talk to and you made me feel very comfortable. It felt like I had met an old friend :)

I met you the first time at stonebender, loracs, dbubley's housewarming party. Although I had been hearing happy noises coming from my brother long before that. I am always happy to meet anyone that brings that kind of smile to my big bro's face. You do have a way about you*grins*

kidnapped you from apc 9. we met in the crafts room and i almost inadvertently recreated a squicky thing that had happened to you earlier. we got lost looking for the place that wound up not having corned beef hash. talking with you was like we had talked together for years, which i guess we had, but not in person.

*smooch*
