Note to my Bush-voting US friends:



I don't think you're liars and murderers. I do think you voted for one,
and I'm pretty unapologetic about thinking that, but I think most of you
voted for him out of a desire to see a safer world, and a belief that your
vote was going to make a positive difference. I disagree with your
conclusion, and I wish you hadn't voted for him, but I respect your right
to make those decisions for yourself. I will spend the rest of my days
trying to help undo what this awful president has done, and one of the
things I'm angriest about is that he deceived some really good people into
getting behind his evil.

I will say it here, and I will say it on alt.poly when I get a chance -- I
don't want a world where only liberals are allowed to vote. I don't want
a world where all conservatives are called liars and murderers. And I
sure as hell don't want a world where those who perceive themselves to be
in the majority (like, say, liberals on alt.poly) use their majority as a
reason for doing away with the minority. Fuck that. We're liberals. We
stand up for the underdog, we don't trample her underfoot.

Grow up and get a sense of perspective, will ya?

I found it ironic that I'd be defending Steve... but I do think he was misunderstood. Mind, he might as well have written in Morse code for all that there was a good chance of understanding him; he was pretty far out.

But I think if he'd had the famous Assembler command of "DWIM" (Do What I Mean - most assembler commands of a certain era were four letters or less and were similarly mnemonic in form), what would have emerged from his keyboard would have been more agreeable. (Agree-to-able? Something like that.)

I still think the DWIM would have saved him, but it's definitely not ambiguity in what was written :-).
