For the first time in years, I bought something on Buy-Nothing Day.
But it was a tampon from a vending machine, and it cost a quarter, so I don't feel too bad.

Just kidding. I'm pretty sure Buy Nothing Day has an out clause for hygiene emergencies. And if it doesn't, it probably should.

As much as I respect the fundamental principle behind it, I don't tend to take the whole thing all that seriously, anyway -- when it comes to the necessities that I have to buy, the big corporations are still going to get the same amount of money from me no matter what day I buy them, so I'm really just changing when they get my money, not if they get it. And when it comes to the luxuries, I really don't have much disposable income to spend on those anyway. So, since every day is already Buy As Little As Possible Day in my world, Buy Nothing Day is really kind of moot. No evil social-destructionist liberal points for me either, clearly...

that's exactly what snopes.com said (I think it was them) about the don't-buy-gas days. no real impact on the gas companies, since you will buy the same amount of gas overall.

I bought R bought, at my request, multi-grain cereal from Trader Joe's (I was almost all out!) and pizza from a local pizzeria for lunch.

Not that I would have starved without them, but I feel guilt free nonetheless.
