holiday questions
Dec. 18th, 2005 02:13 pmToday, I'm puttering around the house. Made waffles, listening to Pandora, registering BookCrossing books, and, now, answering surveys.
kightp got this from
hobbitbabe and
firecat, and as she did, I'm gonna cut for the holiday-averse:
Stole a couple of her answers, too:
1. Egg nog or hot chocolate?
Eggnog. No idea why I like it, since I generally loathe things with cinnamon, nutmeg, and alcohol flavoring in them. Must be the texture.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Usually, I wrap presents unless I give them early.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white
No lights this year, but I have a fondness for the white ones
4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Last year we did. We aren't decorating this year.
5. When do you put your decorations up?
See #4. Usually some time in the first week of December if we do it at all.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Mama Stamberg's Cranberry Relish
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child?
The xmas in Spain when we got flamenco dolls and a pachinko machine for gifts, and my parents were both home, and everyone was happy and calm. I have pictures from that one, and it still makes me happy. I was wearing this cute long pink satin nightgown. :-)
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I was five or six. I went down the stairs to see who was talking. My mom was telling my sister that she might set the clock ahead to midnight so she could wake me and my siblings, since all the presents were assembled. (My family opens gifts at midnight on xmas eve.)
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
We do all of them on Christmas Eve in my family of origin. We'll probably do Christmas day here, and the day after with
stonebender.
10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him?
None.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
Love it in small doses, now that I don't live in it.
12. Can you ice skate?
Yes, but badly.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift?
No, but I remember some good ones. My flamenco doll (her dress was green. I gave her to a girl who was going to be my stepsister, and she busted the arm on purpose, and I got angry -- my dad said that it wasn't my right any more. I was furious.). My mom gave me a guitar one year, when she really couldn't afford it. My dad used to give me and cute-poet-chick exactly what he gave my brothers and their wives: big, fat gift certificates, and spending those together was a big joy.
14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Honestly, I like them, but they're not important to me. I like giving gifts the most, but really, you could do away with xmas and I wouldn't mind.
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert
PIE!
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Giving gifts
17. What tops your tree?
I don't do trees.
18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving?
GIVING! Which is not to say I don't like getting gifts, because I really do, but giving them is so fun for me.
19. What is your favorite Holiday Song?
Don't laugh -- Merry Christmas, Darling, by the Carpenters
20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?
Eh.
21. What is your favorite holiday movie?
The Nightmare Before Christmas. No, really
