I just posted my first article, called "On Being an Atheist Hippychick", on gather.com. Please go check it out. It's the first thing of substance I've written in a while, and I kind of like it, though it feels a bit rough around the edges.

I like it, but hugging and talking to trees have nothing to do with any random deity I may or may not believe in and everything to do with hugging and talking to trees because they are *trees*.

Right, and I get that. And I talk to my plants. But I talk to them because it gives me pleasure to anthropomorphize things, and not because I believe they have any sentience or godhood. That's the assumption a lot of my pagan firends make about me, and that's what inspired the article.

as well you might; it was the best banana bread i ever made. though that doesn't say a whole lot, really -- i've made very few banana breads, and i've never actually been inventive with them. this time i took the basic recipe that came with my breadmaker (which features bananas and walnuts), and changed it quite a bit (minus nuts, plus ginger and raisins and cardamom and cloves), and it came out super-plus-yummy-good.
