My brother just called. His wife is pregnant with child #9. They're
thrilled, and I'm thrilled for them. This will be my 14th nibling in 15
years. I am so totally off the babymaking hook (though my mom still bugs
me for kids).

(If you're tempted to express shock/dismay at my brother's happy news,
please keep it to yourself. They're good parents, and their kids are
happy, healthy, and well taken care of, and I don't want to hear any
negativity about this.)

Hey, I think it's awesome that they have the energy and resources to support all those children!

Nine? Better man than I am, Gunga Din, but since the family is healthy and well taken-care-of and important to you, best wishes for their continued health and well-being.

Yay for Darwinian fitness without all the work of rearing them yourself. (Although since you did rear a couple of them yourself for quite a while, that's more of a yay for me than for you. My cousins have reproduced all over the place, leaving my genes well enough represented that I feel no need to.)

And congrats to your brother's family too.

That was my first thought.

Mind you, I come from a Catholic background so families that size aren't all that unusual.

Holy wow! NINE KIDS?! That one couple can handle nine kids amazes me. Congrats!!!

(I'm not sure I could handle nine kids, although while I would like a large family, my default view of my future with kids is as a single parent, and I *KNOW* I could never manage nine kids alone. Hell, two would be a stretch!)

I'll toast to the newest kidlet, and to two obviously wonderful parents, and also to their relationship, which must be strong and wonderful to make a happy family of eleven. *raises glass!*

Wow. Nine. The most anyone in my mother's generation managed was seven. I was one of six. Hurrah for yet another niece/nephew for you!

Hey, I come from an Irish Catholic family. Nine kids is par for the course. :-)

Congrats to your brother and his family, and congrats to you! I definitely understand being off the baby hook, even after only two niblings on each of Karsten's and my side. Whatever works. :-)

Wow!

My brother-in-law is one of 16. I'm one of 6. So no dismay here. Just impressed. :)

I'm one of five. My mother would have wanted more if she hadn't been married to, oh, say, my father.

I want about 8, to begin with...
