I'm feeling lazy and cocoony today. Luckily, my job doesn't require much
of me, and I have a rule that if I'm being paid to be here, I'm not
*required* to get anything else done, as I'm meeting my making-a-living
responsibility. And tonight, a friend is coming over bearing food, so I
don't even have to cook tonight.

So what I'd like to know is this: What did you like about 2005?

It can be one thing or a list. It can be something about your life or the
world around you. Tell me good stuff, and then if you want, spread the
question around. If you don't wanna, don't. :-)

What I liked about 2005: I finally figured out that it's all about me. Not in a selfish sense, but in that "put on your own oxygen mask before assisting other ways." And while I knew this before, it really hit home with me to the point that I'm finally living it over the course of the last year.

I use the oxygen mask analogy a lot, and I'm with you on that. I also tend to think that the world I want to live in is filled with people who take good care of themselves, so I have a duty to be one of those people.

I liked the fact that even though it was a very difficult year for me, I came out alive. More so than last year.

I actually enjoyed quite a bit of 2005. It's hard to start a list b/c I feel like I'd be leaving out so much.

Which is not to say there's no room for improvement.

Mr. E was a consistent bright spot. Also, I got to go to Europe! Slovenia & Venice!

What I liked about 2005: getting pregnant.

What scares me about 2006: the baby is coming *this* year.

My trip to Hawai'i. Meeting several new friends this year, and getting better with others who were once just acquaintances, but are now friends.

I've spent this year really settling in to living in My Little Town, making friends and learning all the cool things there are to see and do here in Oregon. I've gotten a chance to show off these many cool things to various cool visitors. And with my digital camera (purchased this year) and my Flickr account I am enticing other cool folks to come see the wonder that is Oregon.

I got a Prius and a cat and a book contract.

It began to look like maybe some folks were waking up to the fact that the current US administration is dangerous, and voting machines are too easy to hack.

2005 stuffs...

*getting Aliza out of a baaaaaaaaaaad living situation
*finding a job that I really *like*
*adding the theater major which feeds my soul
*meeting someone(s) that I can harmlessly crush on
*meeting neat new people

I liked that America started to wake up from it's post 9/11 haze.

I liked working again and having a fairly secure place to live.

I liked THE LEROY!

I liked a whole bunch of movies that came out.

What I liked about 2005: [livejournal.com profile] adrian_turtle, and the ways we are good for each other, and how she fits into my life and with the other people I love.

Getting back in touch with Alan.

Getting out of the financial pit [livejournal.com profile] cattitude and I had fallen into.

Speaking of stability: I'm typing this the same place I was typing to LJ a year ago at this time, though [livejournal.com profile] papersky has a new monitor and keyboard, and there are all these letters printed on the keys.

I liked being promoted at work.
I loved coming to California for the second time in my life and meeting lots of cool alt.poly people, some again, many for the first time, and especially some that I had wanted to meet from my first days on alt.poly these many years since.
I liked getting a lovely new pocketpc for my birthday. (Yes, I know, it's Windoze, but ... it's light, compact and so far, seems to work quite adequately!)
I'm sure there was other stuff in there, but those are the three things that stand out in my mind just now.

The people. I mean, that's not fundamentally different from many years, but looking back, my favourite thing about 2005 was the people.

The people in my life were a trial and a travail this year. Don't tell them I said this, but they should all be banished. ;-)
