It makes sense, if you can't see the overwrought, anguished faces of protesters you might just as well use wooden posts to support the poorly-crafted cardboard signs.
Of course, taking that step frees up the protesters to go congratulate one another on their respective social consciences over lattes somewhere nice, but not too nice.
