...who found the
Olbermann thing
to be juvenile and tacky? (I mean, I laughed, and it
was funny, but it certainly felt like childish schoolyard taunting, not
far removed from the kinds of things that piss me off about O'Reilly
himself.)

I didn't find it juvenile and tacky necessarily. I found it clever and well-deserved. Mean spirited? Yes, indeed...and on that point, I would probably protest simply because I don't care for mean-spirited humor, but then again, the mean-spirited O'Reilly has never hesitated to lambast anything and anyone that he has disagreed with so the "what goes around comes around" rule would apply.

I found it spot on and just the right tone for skewering a pseudo-journalist who is a mean-spirited Ted Baxter.

I doubt you're the only one. I thought some of the jokes were a bit, simple, but I enjoyed it on the whole. The situation is problematic with O'Reilly. His "commentary" when not completely fabricated is still so kindergarten playground level that responding to him at all endangers one to fall to his level. Yet, not to respond at all or to take him to seriously gives him a bit too much credibility in my opinion.

Bill O'Reilly is the schoolyard bully of tv pseudojournalism, and an out-and-out liar - and that's saying something considering what else is out there. That Olbermann continues to stand up to him and refuses to tiptoe politely around him causes me to cheer.

If Usenet has taught me anything, it's that attempting to have intelligent, thoughtful debates with trolls wastes everybody's time.

If watching people has taught me anything, it's that taking the high ground and ignoring the trolls does not sell triple-packs of Gillette Mach3 Turbo Razors (for the closest shave a man can get), on sale now at Walgreens (some, open 24 hours).

I tuned out about halfway through -- I'm burned out on pissing matches. Olbermann's comments were as clever as could be expected, but only just. Like a remark about how often it rains in Seattle, a remark to the effect that "O'Reilly's an ass" has to have galactically uncommon cleverness to hold my attention.
