It happens. It especially happens when I'm getting close to my period and
I've spent time with a little kid.

It's okay. I'm all right with having chosen not to do something that I
really want to do, and having kids is something I've chosen not to do,
even though I really want a child. Still...

*sighhhh*

(How I deal with this sadness is to remind myself that for everything I
give up by not having a child, there is something I would give up by
having one -- the freedom to leave the house at a moment's notice;
financial freedom; having time to myself, etc. -- and to remember that
there is no end to wanting. If I got everything I wanted, I would find
something else to want.)

It doesn't happen very often, but I've had a few of those moments.
And I too remind myself of all the reasons I've decided not to have a child. And the moment passes until the next time.

Well, I'd be happy to loan you ours for a bit if you'd like. That oughtta cure ya! Seriously, though, I'm sorry for your sadness, and glad that you are clearheaded enough to really see your own choices. Hope the sadness passes to a tolerable level soon.

That's what akosut's aunt did--she never had kids of her own, but then several years ago she got involved with a man who was about to become a grandfather, and all of a sudden she's "Nana." She couldn't be happier about it, I don't think. :-)

There is another option: foster children. There are many children who need foster homes until they get placed for adoption, or can return to their own parents. But, I also heard that many foster children have a lot of emotional issues, and so this is not an easy choice for some people. But it can also be very rewarding.
