Call me a disillusioned optimist, but this makes me so sad.

Heard it on NPR today. I'm saddened, too. :(

Because Gods forbid the DLC actually supports someone with a backbone and broad bi-partisan support over an established party hack.

Yeah, I'd hoped to see Hackett in the Senate too. Let's hope Webb makes it from Virginia.

sad?

I'm pissed off.

I bet this isn't the last we see of Paul Hackett. I was worried yesterday when I read in the paper how the DNC was publicly calling on him to run for congress again and not Senate.

Now I'm pissed.

I bet this isn't the last we see of Paul Hackett.

He's only 43, so there's plenty of time for him to make a comeback. I'm just afraid that when he does it will be as a kinder, gentler, gutless Democrat or as a bat-shit looney independant.

I was impressed by Mr. Hackett himself but moreso by the fact that he appeared to have some backing from the DNC. Now I have the feeling that he may have been a deliberate sacrifice and/or I way to get people who see the Democrats as gutless back on board.

I suspect that strategically they didn't want in-fighting between him and the other dem against DeWine which could really help DeWine and they wanted him to go after the Congress seat he almost won in a conservative district that the other dem doesn't look like as good a chance in.

It's not the most unreasonable ploy making a really good go at two seats versus having a gamble on those two seats.

but I'm still pissed. I wanted to vote for Hackett whereas now I'll be voting against DeWine. My congressional district is already wrapped up with the lovely and talented Stephanie Tubbs Jones.

which is ironic, seeing as i am seeing it as proof that they are being gutless, and am far from alone.

it seems like they're really trying to alienate people from the party. do you think it's as on-purpose as it seems to be? i don't really want to believe that they're clueless enough to be doing it by accident, but it's certainly a possibility.

There are times late at night when I'm jacked-up on caffeine when the only scenario that seems to fit all the facts is that both the Democrats and the Republicans are minions of Great C'thulhu. The leadership of both parties is under orders to make it look good, and the rank-and-file are mercifully ignorant of who their true master is.

Whenever one of lesser candidates actually tries to make real changes they're taken to a deserted graveyard where they enter a crypt and climb down a 999 steps to meet with certain unnameable things and read certain unmentionable books. When they return (if it is in fact they who return, and not something else posing as them) they are quite prepared to play the game.

In the light of day, I just repeat [livejournal.com profile] serenejournal's mantra: "People are morons."

Oh crap. I had donated money when he was running for the House seat, and had been watching this one with interest as well. I don't know what to make of the announcement.

Wait, you were getting behind a candidate with a chance?

A moderate, no less?

What is this world coming to?

Hey, pal, I'll show you moderate (http://groups.google.com/group/alt.polyamory/msg/1aaabb9be93c987e).

Well, for the record there are one or two trigger locks in the glove box of every vehicle I own.

And did you know that an acre of hazelnuts can produce four times more protein than an acre of soybeans?

15 bushes coming in the spring. (I ordered too late last year.) I'm planting them on the margins of the non-tillable land though because I very much enjoy the 105.00 an acre I get for my minimum till, manure fertilized corn/soy goodness.

I still challenge anyone to sink a shovel below the moisture line anywhere on the place and not come up with at least one earthworm.
