Apr. 25th, 2006 01:51 pmAbout sixteen years ago, I was raped. It only happened once, it wasn't someone who violated my trust, and it was, as such things go, traumatic but overcomeable.
No one should ever be treated that way, and no child should ever have to deal with the added burden of having someone who is supposed to be trusted take that trust away.
My friend
tenacious_snail participates in something called Impact Bay Area, and she's posted a stunning, important post and call to action on her LJ. In essence, she tells what Impact has done for her, including a cathartic release of some fear over being repeatedly raped by someone who should have been nurturing her, and she offers to match donations to Impact, up to $2500, which is a LOT of money.
tenacious_snail is a brave, goodhearted, trustworthy woman, and if you can deal with the emotional content, I wish you'd go read the post and do what you can. If you can't send money, then let people know about Impact, or about similar resources in your area. Or hell, just take a moment to reflect on how many good, upstanding people you know who have been brutalized and have risen above the trauma. That much, even, will add to the goodness in the Universe, I really believe it.
