About sixteen years ago, I was raped. It only happened once, it wasn't someone who violated my trust, and it was, as such things go, traumatic but overcomeable.

No one should ever be treated that way, and no child should ever have to deal with the added burden of having someone who is supposed to be trusted take that trust away.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] tenacious_snail participates in something called Impact Bay Area, and she's posted a stunning, important post and call to action on her LJ. In essence, she tells what Impact has done for her, including a cathartic release of some fear over being repeatedly raped by someone who should have been nurturing her, and she offers to match donations to Impact, up to $2500, which is a LOT of money.

[livejournal.com profile] tenacious_snail is a brave, goodhearted, trustworthy woman, and if you can deal with the emotional content, I wish you'd go read the post and do what you can. If you can't send money, then let people know about Impact, or about similar resources in your area. Or hell, just take a moment to reflect on how many good, upstanding people you know who have been brutalized and have risen above the trauma. That much, even, will add to the goodness in the Universe, I really believe it.

I love you, and I wish that neither of you have had to endure that. I say this with tears in my eyes. You're very strong women.

I'm unable to contribute at this time, but please know that my heart is with you and with everyone else who is dealing with this atrocity.

thank you. Just adding to the people who *know* about this resourse is a good thing. And in case this is relevant to anyone you know, Impact does offer both full and partial scholarships.

you ARE an amazing woman for speaking up so openly about this to support these wonderful efforts.

I was sitting at a women's music concert some 28 years ago and someone asked us to raise our hands if we'd been raped. we amply demonstrated the statistic of one in three women, and we certainly experienced surprise to find out which ones of us raised their hands (yep, I was 20).

I didn't realize that BAMM (Bay Area Model Mugging) had changed their name to Impact, and I'm glad to know that the good work goes on. I'll let Tenacious Snail know when I make my donation.

my heart is full of love for you, my sweet Serene.
