Just applied for a job in the same office where The Best Temp Job Ever
resides. It's not the job I want most, but it pays really well, has
benefits, and is something I could do well. Here's hoping! Oh, and it's
four days a week, rather than five, which I would love.

Excellent! Would the person who supervises you in the temp job be the supervisor in the new position? Does she have the ability to hire outright or does it go through committee interview? I would think you'd have a very good chance at getting it!

I've found, in my experience, that even a non-ideal job is much easier to tolerate if it's in an organization where you feel comfortable and appreciated and respected.
