So where do you find your good short fiction these days?

Since I tend to read a lot of short sci-fi & fantasy, I'm rather fond of Fantasy & Science Fiction magazine.

I also like McSweeney's (http://www.mcsweeneys.net/) (website, literary mag, anthologies).

It's super short, 100 word, stories but they're great for listening or reading. I usually do both. And I think there are over 700 stories there.

fantasy + science fiction magazine
asimov's magazine

also, i tend to wander border's "bargain" section - which often has collections for SF stories on sale. various "years best" fiction collections, asimov's themed collections...

you know... after typing all that, I realized you didn't say "short science fiction" - just short fiction. doh! :)

well, the same applies w/ border's "bargain" section
the New Yorker
there's a "women's best short stories" collection that comes out every year which is often good

I'm not normally a reader of short fiction but I just finished the Tiptree anthology, Her Smoke Rose Up Forever, and it's fucking amazing.

I'll second that recommendation. I picked it up at Wiscon and it's fabulous. I also particularly enjoyed _The Starry Rift_ (another collection of short stories).

I also like Neil Gaiman's short fiction. _Smoke and Mirrors_ is a fun collection.

I bought an anthology that I *really* enjoyed, and have followed up by buying anthologies of the short fiction of several of the authors featured in that book.

If you have an interest in it, I'd be happy to provide it to you.

In terms of serial sources, I subscribe to a couple of magazines that publish short fiction, but in all but one case it's not their primary thing -- just something they do sometimes -- and in that one case the quality is often sort of low.
