Five questions meme. Here's how it works:

(ETA: Please feel free to add "If you feel like it" to items 1, 3, 4, and 5.)

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."

2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.

3. You will update your journal with the answers to the questions.

4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the
same post.

5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

1. you used to be strongly religious. what caused you to become an
atheist?

The short version is that when I was dying (I was attacked, and nearly died), I realized that all those people who were telling me how to live didn't have to face my death for me. I began exploring the whole thinking-for-myself thing and concluded at the end of a period of seeking that it's sufficiently unlikely that there is a personal god to make it nonsensical for me to believe in it.

2. any specific things you'd like to do or see in japan?

Nope. I'm not taking a camera or any preconceptions about what to see or do. Just going to see where the days take me.

3. how do you take care of your long hair?
The women on [livejournal.com profile] longhair would be horrified. Every day and a half I wash it with T-Gel shampoo, no conditioner, and then I wear it piled up on my head 99% of the time, including when I sleep. When it gets really snarly (about every week or two), I take a half hour or so and brush it. That's it. Haven't had it cut or trimmed in at least five years, and I *don't* "dust". (For those who don't know, "dusting" is spending time every day snipping off the split ends.)

4. what was the best gardening reference you discovered in your recent
foray into gardening?

I bought two books -- the one I found useful was Square-foot Gardening, but I knew ahead of time that that's the method I wanted to use. My dad had used it with great success in the past, and I'm the kind of geek he is, so I thought it would work for me. I was right.

5. do you have a good recipe for japanese pickles?

Not the long-pickling kind, but I do a lovely "pickled" cucumber salad that's similar to your OH's, but uses rice wine vinegar. And now I want pickled daikon. Hmm, maybe I'll grow daikon when I get back. :-)

and a bonus: you have baseball movies in your interest list. if you like
any anime at all, check out princess 9. it's a series about a high
school girls' baseball team, and it's quite good.

Cool. Thanks! So far I haven't liked any anime (besides a few scenes, like the catbus), but I am a sufficiently rabid fan of baseball movies that I'll check it out. Just added the 6 disks to my Netflix queue.

I'll try to get to your interviews before leaving for Tokyo. If I don't manage it,
I'll do it when I get back.

I'd love to be interviewed, if you have time before you leave.

Sure! 1. Are you actually a tutor, and if so, what do you like about that?

2. Math/Philosophy double major: Tell me something about how you came to choose that.

3. What's the best/worst thing about living where you do?

4. Are you a vegan? If so, why?

5. If you could change one thing of substance about your day-to-day life without changing anything of substance about yourself, what would it be and why?

No reason not to start placing demands on you as early in our relationship as possible: interview me (should it please you to do so)!
