Job stuff

The boss just called me in to tell me that October 13th is slated as my
last day here, but they may try to keep me an extra week. The other job
they've been dangling may or may not come available, but not immediately
at any rate. I told her I'm not planning on continuing here, and that I'm
going to give working at home a serious shot.

The pluses:

If I'm at home, I can still temp at The Best Temp Job Ever if the woman
who's replacing me calls in sick or goes on vacation.

I *love* being in my home. I really love it. When I'm sitting working at
my computer, taking breaks to putter around my house or take a walk with
my loves, I just feel so right and happy.

I can see [livejournal.com profile] stonebender more often.

I can have parties again.

I found a way (two ways, actually, and we'll see which one pans out) to
get benefits while working at home.

The minuses:

Less job security.

Have to find clients.

Things I need to do before the end of The Best Temp Job Ever:

Put up a website for my editing and writing services

Make a tutoring flyer for my bosses to offer their students

Get business cards

Fictitious Business Name (Also known as DBA=Doing Business As), so people can write checks to SerenePages or Serene Vannoy and I can still cash them.

You don't necessarily need to do this, depending on the laws in your state. When I was freelancing, I just had my bank add my business name to my account.

My bank wants a copy of my DBA.

Well, foo. As I said, laws may vary.

Mine just had me fill out the same kind of form they use to add another person to an account. Took about five minutes.

Many years ago I had to file a DBA. I was CST Consulting, which stood for either Central Standard Time (my birth time zone) or my name + Time, as in I do it in my own time, thank you very much.

When you filed your DBA as CST did you do it PDQ or just ASAP?
