My co-workers/bosses are taking me out for a farewell lunch today. They're
taking me to sushi because they know I love sushi. I think it's terribly
sweet of them -- I'm the temp, so it's not like they have to do this, but
they're darling to do it. At the same time, I'm uncomfortable being the
center of attention, and I'm uncomfortable with the whole "We're gonna
miss you!" thing when it's their decision that I'm leaving, not mine.

Oh, well. Sushi's good. :-)

When I have been asked to leave, and it's not a case of "we'll give you 10 minutes of supervised time to box up everything", usually the Manager has the kindness to no go to the good-bye lunch, and other people who didn't like me self-selected out.

In this case, they really do want to keep me, but their hands are tied, as it were. A full-time employee in the department wanted to job, so they had to give it to her.

The end of temp assignments can be really weird. I had one that they would have liked to have kept me.(I doubt I would have staid though working near meat not good)but the day before I was brought in they hired someone for the open position. So I just got their books in order as she was trained on the shipping part of the position. When I left there I got $200 cash money. Only fair I guess I collected over $300,000 in past due accounts.
