1) Pandora is even cooler now. Not sure how long they've been doing this, but if the artist they're playing is on tour, there's an "on tour" button you can click to get the dates. Coolness. (Joan Baez is touring, but she's not coming here, looks like.)

2) Driving-music joy today: "Down at the Twist and Shout" on the way up; "Fast Car" on the way back.

3) Spotted an SUV in front of me today with "PUR BLUD" as a vanity plate. Hoped it wasn't what I thought it was, but when I got closer, the license-plate cover said "It's okay to hate her if she's a race traitor". I wanted to lose my lunch. I wanted to call the DMV and see if that's legal. I wanted to scream.

4) Ate WAY too many finger sandwiches at [livejournal.com profile] sogwife's halloween tea. Y'all should've been there.

5) Water heater going 'splodey is one of those glad-I'm-a-renter situations. Just sayin'.

Re the SUV swine, I'm really not a violent person, and I loathe guns, but that would so tempt me to whip out my AK47, commit mayhem on the driver, and then say "There's your survival of the fittest, mate. Was that fun?" How vile. I presume if the relevant authority issued the plate, it's legal. Sickenly enough.

Finger sandwiches sound like excellent consolation, and remind me that now it's spring, I should make asparagus rolls. :-)

Re 3), from what I know of US law (not a lot) offensive plates can be removed, but the DMV has to spot that they are offensive. I recall reading an article on it that said sometimes it takes a complaint for them to realise that something is the prison code for murder, or spells something offensive, etc

It was a while ago tho', it might be out of date

The plate sickens me. The DMV probably would pull it, but that sickens me too. I do not agree with what the driver is saying, but I would defend (although not to the death, primarily because I am a coward) her right to say it. I understand that the plate is sorta a government document and can be censored, but I don't think that means it should be.

With anything else on a car, stickers and window decals especially, I agree with the no censorship angle. Apart from anything else, it's a self-assessed community service, you know to steer clear of the idiot with the "no fat chicks" sticker. I saw one yesterday on a car driven by a young white kid that read "cop bait". I thought that was pretty hilarious in a sad kind of way, pretty soon that kid's going to learn that being cop bait is no fun at all.

With the plates, I do not agree. It is a government licensing system and it's the government's responsibility to set standards, not facilitate people's bullshit. In that sense I'd be happy if every vanity plate disappeared tomorrow anyway.

Oh, yuck! Stuff like that can ruin my whole day. I'll never understand senseless, mindless, hateful stuff like that. Like you, I want to scream.

What a bastard.

i'm really liking pandora (though officially i am not allowed to like them, *snicker*, but i know some fine zip codes in the US). i need to replace our speakers so i can blast sound through the entire shack!

so i was looking at the latest ad, for jameson whiskey, and it had a "jameson's radio station". added it to mine to see what sort of music it is. first song is from the album "transcanada highway" by "boards of canada" (who are, oddly enough, scottish). *snrk*!

here's hoping all the racist arsehole's little swimmers drown.

I guess it's the HP fan in me, but for #3, the first thing I thought of was someone poking fun at that whole concept in the books. *shrugs* Another - IMO of course - far more innocent interpretation would be someone who breeds dogs (and I realize that some people have serious problems with breeding animals when we have so many animals without homes, but that's a whole post in and of itself).

That SUV plate is really offensive. But I object to the DMV censoring plates in the first place. I would be upset by seeing that, but when that kind of thing happens, I usually try to think of something I can do in response that would make me feel good and be a positive action -- like donating money or time to an anti-racisem group. Then I get the satisfaction also of knowing that their awful message had the opposite effect of what they wanted.

Also, Pandora is awesome. And mmm, I want finger sandwiches now.

re: 1. That's awesome! Must go check that out.

re: 3. And here I was *really* hoping the person raised race horses. Or greyhounds. Nope. Totally different type of dumb animal, I guess.

re: 3. That was my first thought, too. My second was "maybe it's someone into vampires."

My jaw actually dropped at #3. I did not think that actually happened outside of fiction.

Re: the SUV, it's not the plate but the cover that bothered me ("pureblood" can have many other connotations, many of which aren't negative). I'm not into censoring plates because mine could easily garner them because it has an acronym which includes an "F."

Re: the water heater, let me know what kind you wind up with and how you like it. I have to get a new water heater, but because I "own" (the bank really owns it) the place, I have to buy it myself.

"It's okay to hate her if she's a race traitor"

It takes a rare talent for words to express both racism and misogyny in one simple jingle. Truly, truly amazing.
