Nov. 1st, 2006 08:42 amMy old job called me to interview for another position in the department that I applied for. I think I would be really good at it, it pays well and has good benefits, and the hours would likely be flexible. It's 30 hours a week, which if I have to work outside the home, is perfect. They wanted me to interview next Tuesday, but I'm working at the polls that day, so we'll see if they can do that Thursday, when I'm already on campus covering for my old position.
Pluses:
+ They know me, and like me, and know I'm competent
+ Health benefits and a steady paycheck (at a higher wage than I was making there before)
+ Working 2 miles away from home
+ Pressure is off to make contract gigs pay the bills, but I'd still have some free time to pursue the contract gigs
+ The person I'd have as a boss is someone I genuinely like and get along with
Minuses:
- I really do love working at home, and would grieve a little over losing that
- The office I'd be working in is a little depressing (physically, that is, but I think I could do some things to pep it up)
- One of the interviewers (and the potential grand-boss) is someone I've had some friction with at work, though not a lot, and I think it's purely work-related, and not that he doesn't like me or anything
So basically, I'll go, I'll interview, and we'll see. I won't be crushed if I don't get it, but I'll be happy if I do. I've applied for several jobs in the department before, and not gotten to the interview stage, so we'll see.
