My old job called me to interview for another position in the department that I applied for. I think I would be really good at it, it pays well and has good benefits, and the hours would likely be flexible. It's 30 hours a week, which if I have to work outside the home, is perfect. They wanted me to interview next Tuesday, but I'm working at the polls that day, so we'll see if they can do that Thursday, when I'm already on campus covering for my old position.

Pluses:

+ They know me, and like me, and know I'm competent
+ Health benefits and a steady paycheck (at a higher wage than I was making there before)
+ Working 2 miles away from home
+ Pressure is off to make contract gigs pay the bills, but I'd still have some free time to pursue the contract gigs
+ The person I'd have as a boss is someone I genuinely like and get along with

Minuses:

- I really do love working at home, and would grieve a little over losing that
- The office I'd be working in is a little depressing (physically, that is, but I think I could do some things to pep it up)
- One of the interviewers (and the potential grand-boss) is someone I've had some friction with at work, though not a lot, and I think it's purely work-related, and not that he doesn't like me or anything

So basically, I'll go, I'll interview, and we'll see. I won't be crushed if I don't get it, but I'll be happy if I do. I've applied for several jobs in the department before, and not gotten to the interview stage, so we'll see.

I *know*. (Though I had finagled a way to get benefits while working at home, that hasn't kicked in yet.)

health insurance!

um, but me and my arthritis are very heavily biased towards never being without health insurance.

Best of luck, whichever form that actually takes :-)

I think you've got the perfect attitude toward the interview: You'd like it, interview fairly pleasant and low-stress, which in turn should let you shine.

I hope they offer it to you - and then you can decide if you want to take it or not.

Sounds lovely, on balance. 30 hours was my all-time favorite amount to work when I was working outside the home and supporting myself. A good balance of home and money for me, and it sounds like for you too.

Wishing you the best outcome!

Tell them you know someone perfect for the job who can be there in like a week and a half.

Good Luck. I have my interview for the job I maybe want tomorrow. And on your pros's and con's, it looks like the pros's win, unless it's a weighted grading system, then the stay at home option might tip the balance, huh?

If it were just me I were supporting, I might say yes, but since I have financial obligations, it seems the steadiness might win. Plus, as much as I'd be disappointed not to be home all the time, I really have always liked working for a living.

Did they move Miss [livejournal.com profile] dbubley yet?

I'm leaving now to transport her. She has to be there "not before 2 pm but not after 3 pm". Picky, picky, picky when I'm saving them the cost of an ambulance transport.
