*grin*

I have way too much stage fright for karaoke. (Never mind that I've competed in poetry slams, etc.)

I can't carry a tune in a bucket, and even *watching* karaoke evokes a sort of vicarious embarrassment that makes me want to crawl under the table. So few people do it well, and I know that I'd do it even worse.

What's important though isn't whether people are good but whether they enjoy it. I used to sing karaoke and there was one old drunk there who had a weird voice, no sense of rhythm, and couldn't follow the tune at all but he had such joy and enthusiasm that he was one of the most applauded and enjoyed people there. It's just all around good fun to see someone enjoy something so much no matter what there actual skill level is.

Right. I used to have that cringing embarrassment reaction until something clicked inside and turned karaoke from "performance" to "game".

Oddly enough, in just about every other sort of performance I can think of, that's exactly how I feel. I don't know why karaoke evokes such skin-crawly aversion in me - probably something to do with my own singing phobia. But it does, so I avoid it.

Hmm. I guess I'm surprised at how many "No" answers you've got. All in all, though, not bad.
