Movies I've seen lately, with some spoilers:

The Werewolf of Washington (1973)

Sucky in that good way. Okay, not really. Sucky in that "WTF?" way. Which, if you know us, is the same thing. :-) Dean Stockwell as a werewolf. In a suit. Worth watching just for his transformation scenes, and for the inexplicable scenes with the mad scientist in the tunnels below the White House.

Tideland

Suck. Tas. Tic. Really. Wouldn't recommend it even to those of you who find the beauty in the grotesque, and you know who you are. It's not beautiful; it's just grotesque. The actor who played the protagonist was the only reason to watch the film, and that's sad considering how many good actors she was working with. She just turned 12 (she was 11 at the time of the film), and she out-acted Jennifer Tilly and Jeff Bridges.

Relentlessly gruesome (not gory, exactly, mostly, but gruesome), with occasional bits of humor that had me and [livejournal.com profile] sogwife laughing, but only for a moment until the suckitude kicked in.

Waiting for Guffman

Pretty much what I expect from a Christopher Guest film. Not his best, as I've been led to believe, but lots of the stuff I love about him. Not as good as "Best in Show," in my estimation. Probably would like it as much as "A Mighty Wind" if I'd grown up around theater rather than around folk music. Anyway, I liked it, but he's golden with me.

"Spinal Tap" and "Best in Show" remain my favorites of his. I much preferred "Waiting for Guffman" to "A Mighty Wind."
