[livejournal.com profile] stonebender and I have this thing where we go "shopping". That is, we go to Netflix, or our record club site, or bookstore site, and we pick a bunch of stuff we like and add it to our queue/wishlist/whatever. Then we don't buy it, but we feel like we've gone shopping. I like it that someone else shares my weirdness in this way. I just spent a half hour or more playing with my Powell's wishlist, and I feel great, without having spent a dime.

(Not sure why doing this doesn't make me feel poor, but leafing through catalogs does. Maybe because with books and Netflix and stuff, I know I'll eventually buy the stuff, but with catalogs, it's often stuff I'll never spend the money on.)

I just did that on Amazon today! I do it with music in particular, and sometimes books. I do try periodically to buy a few things that are on my wishlist, but for the most part the wishlist just gets longer and longer - Thnigs stay on it for years. But it's satisfying to be able to erase things from it now and then after I've seen/been given/bought/found/downloaded them.

OK, I'll admit, I did end up buying $20 worth of books today after messing around with my wishlist. Oh well.
