kightp,
nitoda, and elsewhere, this is the love-of-place thing that's going around, and I like it a lot, especially the second sentence.
List three things that you love about the area you live in. Do not contrast with the things you hate.
1. I love the it feels like a neighborhood, with people who know us by sight and have come to expect us. The woman who sells the Street Spirit outside the Berkeley Bowl told us today, "You two are always just the same, God bless." I know that could mean anything, but I took it to mean we have become a constant in her life, as she has become one in ours. I feel like I'm a solid part of my community here, a real person living among real people -- neighborly, in a general atmosphere of goodwill.
2. I love that it's a tourist and convention destination, so I get to see long-distance friends fairly often.
3. I love the fact that being a freak is one of the many many norms here (and no, that's not a contradiction in terms).

3. There are non-plastic people here.
