1. Do you live with roommates* right now? If yes, who? Why do (or don't) you have roommates?

Nope, and we're unlikely to unless it ever becomes financially necessary. We (someotherguy and I) are more likely to sell all our stuff and live in a one-room apartment than we are to share our space with other people at this point, though. We've become really attached to the ease with which we cohabit.

2. Who was the best roommate you ever had? Why?

Probably Andra. She had a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, lots of positive energy, and two jobs, one of which meant she brought home lots of free food. I would have stayed there if the other housemate in the situation hadn't been bugnuts crazy.

3. Who was the worst roommate you ever had? Why?

Rob. When sober, Rob was a raw-foods fanatic, and even ate beets raw. He used to try to make sauerkraut by burying cabbage in the backyard. Then when he was drunk, we would come home and find the place littered with beer bottles and sausage-pizza carryout boxes. Plus, he acted threateningly toward the children when he was drunk. We told him he could do 90 AA meetings in 90 days or move out. He moved out.

4. Do you like having roommates? Why or why not?

I used to. I could again if I were put in the situation. I like having company at night, even if it's not in the same room. I like having people to have casual downtime with. I like the energy of a house full of people. If I have my own bathroom and roommates with a modicum of tidiness about them (but who aren't obsessed about it), I am pretty happy.

5. Are you a good roommate? Why or why not?

I'm an okay roommate. I'm a bit of a slob, and I get stresses when the house is messy, so I think I can be irritating to other people around that kind of thing. But in all, I'm probably a pretty good roommate.

*where roommate means someone who shares your room, house, or apartment with whom you do not have a romantic or familial relationship
