1. Tell me about the last really, really bad book you've read. Or just what makes a book bad in general, if you can't think of any specific one.

The last really bad one, the last one I left on the bus, was almost certainly a trashy murder mystery. I love reading the genre -- it's my comfort reading -- but probably two thirds of the ones I begin are too bad to finish reading.

2. If you had a choice, would you rather have a name that was easy to spell that you shared with lots of other people, or a name that was unique to you that you had to spell all the time?

Don't care.

3. What makes you cry?

So much. I cry easily. I'm most likely to cry when I'm frustrated or feeling powerless.

4. Ever lived anywhere drastically different from where you live now? What's most important about where you live (actual house/apartment, what's available in the area, weather, etc)?

I lived on a Navy base in Spain, on a vegetarian farm in upstate New York, and in a commune. Nowadays, what's most important to me besides whom I live with is the neighborhood that's in walking distance. I walk a lot, and I like having a neighborhood to explore.

5. How do you explain mythology in a less intolerant way than "this is what people used to believe." ?

I don't think that's intolerant. I think it's more accurate, though, to say "this is what some people used to believe, and some people still do".

6. In various profiles, you select your religion, then you have an option for how much your religion is part of your life. How do you answer those questions? And, if it applies, of the two choices "laughing about it," or "very serious," which one should a devout Discordian choose?

I usually say "atheist" because nothing more precise is offered. I'm, depending on definitions, a materialist, a naturalist, a rationalist, an agnostic, an atheist, a pantheist, and several other things. That's hard to put into a word, and as I do not believe that there is any god separate from the natural world, "atheist" seems like the most accurate choice.

7. Do you have a dream house/living space? What kinds of rooms would you have?

I wouldn't have a ton of rooms, as I like having a house I can clean (badly, sometimes, but still) myself. I would love having a guest room, an extra bathroom, and either a super-comfy reading room/library, or a den-ish thing that would be where the TV and DVDs lived. If I'm pie-in-the-skying, I'd also have a kid-friendly (childproofed, full of toys, with a dutch door, etc.) for when people with kids want to visit, and I'd have at least one bathroom per person, including at least one bathtub (we don't have one).

8. Tell me something that is your favorite that not many people like.

My answer is just about the opposite of [livejournal.com profile] epi_lj's: I can't think of one thing. I have some more and less popular likes, but all of them seem to be shared by at least several people I know.

9. Would you rather share a bedroom with one person or a bathroom with four people?

I already share a bedroom with one person and a bathroom with two, and I'd choose the former in a heartbeat.

10. What inspired your username?

It's my name. :-) Well, not the journal part, but that's probably self-explanatory.

11. What makes good ethnic food?

What the hell is "ethnic food"?

12. Ever decided in the first five minutes that you could never date someone? Or that you were absolutely sure you wanted to date them and that wasn't going to change?

Yes to the first (including a ton of my beloved friends, so it shouldn't be considered an insult or anything). To the second, just with [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy.

13. Describe yourself as if you were a character in a gaming system. (For instance, if you the real person were an EverQuest character, what race and class would you be?) Feel free to translate from this world to that, rather than just saying "level 24 human" etc.

I am not qualified to answer this question. If [livejournal.com profile] sogwife or [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy or [livejournal.com profile] hillybiker or someone wants to, they should go for it.

14. Tell me something that you admire in other people that you would never do yourself.

I so admire people like [livejournal.com profile] alanbostick who travel long distances at great expense to do humanitarian acts. I dislike travel enough that it tends to be hard to convince me to travel for FUN, much less for hard work and travail. I'm not proud of it, but there it is.

15. Do you wear jewelry?

I have two wedding rings I wear most of the time, but all the other jewelry in my jewelry box usually goes unworn. I have a couple favorite pieces (a bracelet [livejournal.com profile] porcinea made me, necklaces from [livejournal.com profile] firecat and [livejournal.com profile] sogwife, a few others) that I wear on special occasions. I think I wore the [livejournal.com profile] porcinea one when I saw [livejournal.com profile] the_maenad last.

16. Ever written down, or thought of, names you would give your hypothetical children? What else have you thought about naming? Have the names ever overlapped?

All growing up, I was sure I would have one daughter, and her name would be Faith Elizabeth.

I named my first couple of cars (Howard and Pokey), but in general, I don't name stuff much.

17. Tell me about your ideal wardrobe.

I'm a hippy. If it doesn't cost me much and makes me feel good when I wear it, I'm there. That said, if cost weren't an issue, I would wear some odd mix of hippychick flowing skirts and a more classic, sweaters-and-skirts thing. Kinda like what I wear now, but stuff I chose, rather than stuff people gave me.

18. What makes you insatiably curious?

Not much. I have an appalling lack of curiosity. I seem to be content to just see what information comes across my field of vision. And it's enough to satiate what curiosity I do have for me to pick up a book and start reading.

19. Would you choose to never travel further than 100 miles from your home for the rest of your life, or to move every 2 years at least 20 miles from where you lived previously?

The former. I'm ready to stop moving. I have moved, on average, every year of my life, and I'm tired of it.

20. Do different-colored M&Ms taste different to you? Do all the flavors of Kool-Aid have a distinct taste with your eyes closed?

No to the first, and I haven't drunk Kool-Aid since my childhood, so I have no idea.

21. What have you always wanted to be able to do, but never learned (or at least not learned yet)?

To use a sewing machine.

22. What moods make you prefer different creative outlets? Like drawing over music, and vice versa?

I have no idea how to answer this.

23. Do you ever have deliciously vindictive revenge fantasies? Ever tell anyone about them?

Revenge? No. "Things I might do to harm someone to stop them from harming others", yeah.

24. Would you take a million dollars on the stipulation that you could never drive or ride in a car again?

Yes, without hesitation.

25. Assuming your nutritional requirements were taken care of in some way, what meal could you eat every day, three times a day, for a year?

Just about any meal I like. I have a high tolerance for monotony around food. (I can *eat* the same thing every day -- I just can't *cook* the same thing every day.)

26. Just how clean is your bathroom right this very minute as you read it? (No fair cleaning it up or telling me how clean it was last week!)

It's tidy, but not terribly clean. The floor needs to be cleaned, and the shower stall could use some bleach. Still, my flylady routines have me, at a minimum, swishing the toilet bowl and running a rag across the surfaces every day, so it's not filthy.

After having read several of these tonight, I have a strong craving to get some Kool-Ade.
