So far, no garden pics (I haven't been in a picture-taking mood lately), but there's lots of garden joy this week. Last Friday, [livejournal.com profile] choirboypuppy came by to help me with some weed removal and planting, and to keep the garden cat company.

So far, the grid isn't nearly full, but it looks like this (tonight I'll plan what to put in the empty spaces):

pending pending 1 tomato (black zebra) 1 tomato (super sweet 100)
pending pending pending 1 sweet basil
pending reserved for slug trap (yeast/sugar mixture) pending pending
1 verbena (still there from last year) 1 strawberry (also from last year) pending pending

My goal is to go over there every day for at least a quick visit, and so far I'm doing well. Today, I laid down copper tape and pulled a few tiny weeds, along with watering the plot. Tomorrow, I plan to water the plot, water the butterfly-attractor plant I bought for the garden fence, put up my twine dividers, place my slug trap, and plant some seeds.

We'll see how it goes.

Cool! Is this a "square-foot" garden? Where is it located? There's a garden cat?

I'm intrigued by the "reserved for slug trap" square. Is it a sort of "sacrifice" to the slug gods, of a single square of your garden, so the slugs will be so occupied by the contents of that square that they won't bother your other plants? If so, that is a smart idea.

Yep, square-foot garden. I was hoping to have two 4x4 squares this year, but I'll settle for one, my energy levels considered.

Last year, the slugs pwned me. This year, I'm gonna be ready for the ones that get past my new copper-tape boundary. (http://mactavish.livejournal.com/5260087.html?thread=25670455#t25670455) I really don't want them taking a bite out of each strawberry as it turns red. So this year, I've reserved one square for the pie tin full of yeast-sugarwater.

Oh, and it's right across the street from my house. It's a community garden. I love my neighborhood. :-)

That sounds wonderful! The community gardens here are too far for me to walk with tools. So I'm going to see what I can do on my deck with big pots.

Oh, our garden has a huge box full of tools for everyone to use. I can't wait to see what you grow. Tomatoes (my obsession) seem to do well in pots. A few years back, I had a container garden that included tomatoes and cilantro and jalapenos -- I called it my salsa garden.

I adore fresh tomatoes, and I struggled the past 8 years to get them to grow in our shady backyard. I hope to do better here. Not sure what else to try, though.
