Some days, I want to take all people of all religious persuasions off my friendslist so I don't feel like such a fucking alien.

(Other days, I don't. Feel free to talk into the void; I haven't disabled comments, but I'm also unlikely to engage with them, especially those of the "But religious people aren't BAD!" ilk. If you don't already know that's not what I'm saying, I'm in no mood to convince you.)

Talk to the void, eh?

ECHO!

. . . echo . . .

. . . echo . . .

I haven't been feeling particularly alien lately, but I think it might improve my mood. Especially if it meant I got to wear sparkly deelyboppers, like these (http://www.just4girlz.co.uk/images/products/purple-deeleys-l.jpg).

Yes. Deelyboppers would be helpful.

I hear you.

And I -am- religious.

Sometimes we are hard to be around.

I know what you're saying. Sometimes I feel like dropping all people with characteristic X... with regards to religion, sometimes X is "religious-weary atheists," sometimes it's "Christians," sometimes it's "Wiccans," sometimes it's even "Reconstructionists." I don't have enough Jews on my FL to ever get annoyed with them. Well, there WAS this one time. And to my knowledge I don't have any Muslims on my FL at all, but if I did, I'd probably want to thwack them now and then, too. Just 'cause it's only fair. :D

My response isn't of the sort you're worried about, and your icon made me snarf water out my nose. I just hope I haven't posted anything lately to make you feel like fucking an alien.

I mean, fucking an illegal alien would probably be okay and all, so long as everyone was copacetic with it, but space aliens I'm thinking not so much.

>Man of Steel and Woman of Kleenex (http://www.rawbw.com/~svw/superman.html) and all that, after all.

Even those of us who think that your icon is hilarious?

;)

(Some days I feel like an alien myself, although it's mostly reading about Stupid Fundy Tricks, etc., in the nooz. My userpic was ganked from Conservapedia before they pulled it due to general derision.)

Yeah, there's a couple posts lately that've made me feel much like someone speaking the same language but having totally different meanings.

Blarg.

Mrf:(

Would it help if, when I'm posting stuff that seems to me to have something to do with religion and related, I lj-cut it?

I have less than no desire to contribute to alien-feeling. (With the possible exception, as noted above, of consenting aliens who rather appreciate being felt...) ((yay noodly appendages!))

Yep, I know just what you mean, although it's not always religion which is the usual factor.

I do remove them all from mine! Except that I make exceptions for anyone who's joined my mailing list, which means I make exceptions for about 50 religious people, and 50 exceptions to a rule is almost enough that I might as well not have the rule at all. But not quite. I keep them outnumbered by the non-religious people, and as long as I've got them outnumbered, I can feel confident that they're the aliens instead of me. ;-)

I'm not very religious, although I do participate in a Samhain observance every year, and I don't think I talk much about religion in general. If I have contributed to the alien feeling, I sincerely apologize and will try to do better in the future.

Ha Ha HA

Surprisingly, just about everyone in my direct social circle is atheist, agnostic or "I have some vague religious beliefs but nothing concrete." It always surprises me to run into how different that skews in the general society.

I work with quite a few born agains. That can be pretty interesting on the average day, but they're not in any way pushy. I just don't engage or respond to any conversation revolving around religious belief. They really don't want to know what I think ;)

Hey, I'm with you, and I've had some sort of spiritual belief system during the course of my life... Even so, sometimes I just want them to go away.

I've felt like an alien in a lot of ways, and I think it's because I am both and neither; I believe in science and think that adopting humanism is a pragmatic and realistic way of dealing with life on Earth and at the same time, in some areas of my life I practice paganism and Buddhism.

I wish I could find more folks to talk to that I can relate to. In the meantime, if [livejournal.com profile] pure_agnostic wants to joke about my being a Sexed-up Atheist (aka Pantheist), he's welcome to, though that label isn't exactly accurate for me, either (which is something that rankles me in general -- labels are often useless and impediments to further dialogue).

I wish there were filters based on keywords. There are periods of time when I want to nuke my whole f'n friendslist and I've considered deleting my account. Sometimes it seems like everyone is so caught up in [FITB] when [FITB] is the last thing I want to hear, see, or think about. These times do pass, so far.

I love the people on my friendslist, but damn skippy do I feel alien sometimes.

*hugz*

here's a question to which i honestly do not know the answer.

sometimes when i talk about singing, i know i talk about it in a way that equates it to a spiritual experience, directly, and probably is easy to translate to a religious experience, for those who tend to make that translation. does that read as talking about religion to you?

love you!
