Total change of plans:

Mom has to have surgery tomorrow. It's big surgery, the kind that made her want to die last time, so I'm heading down there next week so I can be with her when she gets out of the hospital. I wish I could go sooner, but I have dental surgery myself on the 2nd. (Which of course means I *could* go sooner, but I probably shouldn't, since the mouth inflammation is hindering my doctor's ability to diagnose the other inflammation stuff in my body.)

I don't think I'm going to be able to cope with throwing the barbecue this weekend, so I'll need to write to all the neighbors and cancel and stuff. And I'll have two fewer weeks in which to get caught up enough at work to take 2 months off. And then some time this summer, I have to be radioactive.

I'm probably forgetting something, but that's the major stuff.

I don't suppose anyone wants to drive me and [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy to San Diego so we don't have to fly or rent a car? ;-)

Ugh ugh ugh. I hope the logistical stuff gets worked out soon so that you can just focus on the emotional stuff. Thinking of you.

Hope all goes well with your dental stuff, travelling, and of course, your Mom's surgery. Does she respond well to antidepressants? I'm wondering if it would be worth her having them prescribed as a preventative measure? Or, at least, if the situation has been discussed with her specialists at the hospital and all the drugs involved, including anaesthetics, evaluated for their potential for causing depression? I'm particularly aware of this following my history recently when I went to the GP, got Prozac prescribed and then as soon as I saw my oncologist he said that the dexamethazone (sp?) they were giving me might be causing the depression and it could be discontinued without impairing the treatment in any way! Sometimes they know these things can happen but don't think to warn patients about it.
