It's a girl!

Um, so apparently the Universe has a sense of humor. You know how I've been gently lamenting the fact that I'm never going to have kids?

Right soon now, I'm getting one. Of course, she's 16 1/2 years old, so I don't have to stay up all night feeding her or anything...

I won't lie and say it was my plan to be the parent of a teenager at this stage of my life, and it's going to mean some big changes around here (including my needing to find lodging for me and a teenager beginning soon), but I think it's a chance for a really cool kid to get a new start, and that part, I'm really excited about.

Plus, I really like this kid, so there's that.

Thank you, darlin'. You know, this may sound disingenuous, but I honestly had no idea that everyone would be all "Wow, you rock" about this. It makes me feel good about my taste in friends that people didn't say "Oh, man, are you sure about this?" or something similar. (Better you than me, is also something I expected.)

I won't leave my space, not completely. Depending on how things go sharing this place, though, we'll need another place for me and the kid, to relieve some of the space-sharing pressure on this place. And then when she's 18, she can get a place of her own (nearby, I hope), and we can go back to 2 in this place. I'm not giving up my apartment. I LOVE it.
