1) I made the best buttermilk pancakes I've ever made. I halved this recipe, with 1 egg being half of 3 eggs. New math. Also, I left out the pecans and bananas. [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy and I prefer our pancakes plain. http://www.foodnetwork.com/videos/ultimate-pancakes/1260.html

2) As worried as I am about [livejournal.com profile] wtfpotatoes while she's off in a whole. other. country., I'm enjoying having the house a little less full, and being able to be naked in my living room.

3) RAIN!! I love rain.

4) I am having trouble leaving the house these days for anything but a minimal walk. I am happy that I have friends and family whose response to that is always "Can I help?" and not "Snap out of it!"

5) Vienna Teng

6) There's split-pea soup on the stove for lunch, and we'll be having Kili's kalua pig for dinner. Sometimes, cooking really does make me feel at least somewhat better. That and the whole people-being-nice-to-me-when-I'm-down thing.

This is a tough time of year. Emotions are triggered easily, and are so much more intense. You're such an upbeat gal it's hard to think of you having a rough time. Hope it passes soon.

Thank you, sweetie. It's not really holiday-based for me (and in fact, I don't care one way or the other about the holidays), but I feel it getting better already because I've spent the past two days having a Severe Downtime Orgy, doing nothing but vegging out, essentially. For me, that's restorative -- I know it's some people's worst nightmare.

Yes, downtime wallowing. I need a day like that ever so often.

"Snap out of it" is perhaps the most useless piece of "advice" ever. If it's not, then "don't feel guilty" is.

kids are sledding down the hill that is the street across from my house, and cars cresting the hill are going sloooowly so they have time to avoid the kids

Visiting her parents, who live in Tijuana, which is only a few miles from my mom's house, but still, is in a whole other *world*, practically.

Ah, I see. Well, of all the things teenagers tend to do in Tijuana, visiting parents may at least be one of the more innocuous? :/

It Must Be Wonderful Pancake Day!

I tasted these very incredible pancakes at Doyle Cafe in Emeryville. I thought they were even better than the ricotta cheese ones we ate at the Rockridge Cafe. They call them Red Hots even though they are neither red nor hot. They are made with sour cream and served with a little ball of pecan butter. We shared an order between 4 people as a little pre-lunch dessert.

Glad you're feeling a little better. Just so you know, I'm ready to metaphorically slap anyone upside their head if they tell you to "just get over it."

"Just get over it" is more like what I say to myself. My friends and family are a lot nicer to me than I am when I'm in this kind of mood, which thankfully, doesn't happen very often. I haven't left the house today. I put on my gypsy clothes (peasant skirt and blouse, bellydancer belt, ankle and wrist bangles with bells) and spent the day in the house, doing nothing but puttering. It helped, even though the funk is still there. It helps to just be nice to myself. And of course, to have everyone else being nice around me.

*hugs*

No, I just like the clothes. I bet my boyfriends wouldn't mind if I started, though. :-)
