So last week some time, I apologized to [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy for not helping with the housework. He said, "You've been working 60 hours a week. I would feel guilty if you were also doing the housework."

Tonight:

Me: "I am really enjoying my lazy evening. I haven't gotten anything done, but it's been so nice."

Him: "Um, well, you did make dinner, and do laundry, and walk to the grocery store..."

Me: "Oh yeah, huh. But I intended when we got home to put away all the laundry and do all the dishes, and I've only put away one bag of laundry and done one load of dishes."

Him: *stares at me for a minute in amused disbelief* "Yeah, only half of all the housework. I think that's a lot."

I think maybe I need to let go of some compulsion or something. Imagine that. (And by the way, I hope I never take for granted that there are never housework arguments in this house. Those were a huge problem at some time in my past, and I am happy to be quit of them. I have wonderful partners who carry their weight, and sometimes mine, too. I'm lucky.)

People have been talking about googling their real names to see if it will hurt their employability. I did it for both sandra vannoy and serene vannoy, and so long as employers don't care that I am bi, poly, and into buttsex, I'm golden.

In hot weather, I do like as most people do, and I try to make food that doesn't require heating the kitchen up too much. Yesterday, it was caesar salad and a huge tray of yummy fruit. Today, lovely sandwiches on ciabatta rolls -- fresh mozzarella, heirloom tomatoes, roasted peppers, thai basil. Yummmmmmm. Along with a perfectly ripe white peach and an equally perfect mango, and some good olives. Then for dinner, some potato salad I made using the pressure-cooker to boil the potatoes. It goes much faster, so it heats the kitchen up almost not at all.

We can't decide if we're being simple or elegant. We don't much care. We ate our sammiches on paper plates, but we felt all extravagant. Not bad.
