1) Dice three medium potatoes, skin on, because you're lazy. Lament the lack of onions in the house.

2) Drop all but three pieces of potato on the floor, along with half a cube of butter. Curse a little, then clean up after yourself.

3) Decide to use O'Brien potatoes instead of chopping more fresh ones, because you're lazy, and after all, they have onions in them.

4) Add the corn you froze the other day because you dropped five cans of corn on the floor and they dented.

5) Add the leftover quart of goat's milk that you forgot to send home with [livejournal.com profile] 7patches, a cup or so of leftover vegetable broth, and salt and pepper to taste.

6) Bring to a simmer and cook for a half-hour or so while you work. Stir it every once in a while.

7) Think about adding leftover ham, but then remember you don't like ham in soup, and add some turkey instead, cut up. Taste the soup and decide to throw in the cup or so of leftover half-and-half, too.
8) Thicken with corn starch in water. Taste, burning your lip in the process.

Et voila! Very yummy.

There is leftover turkey because the bird was much drier this year than last (my thermometer broke), but it's okay. Thanksgiving was lovely. Many friends and new friends showed up, and while I wish I'd had more time with each of them, I got such joy out of the amount of laughter that filled my home. So many great people brought yummy food. Everyone was so sweet about the crowded conditions. My heart was very happy. My life is very full. Thank you all so so so so much.

[livejournal.com profile] stonebender asked what I'm reading. The nice thing is that I *am* reading. I had no time for such diversions when I was working retail. Now, whee, I have time to read, and even to see movies once in a while.

What I'm reading:

Fat!So?
The Golden Compass
Flim-Flam!
Red Mars
The latest issue of the Skeptical Enquirer

Good (fsvo "good" that includes "cheesy but fun") movies I've watched lately:

Spinal Tap
Buckaroo Banzai
Goblet of Fire
Doctor Who: The Three Doctors

Bad movies I've watched lately:

Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle
Thunderbirds

And we have this one on tap:

On Edge (a skating mockumentary)

Oh, and I saw this play with [livejournal.com profile] stonebender:

Marius

Wow. That's more veg-out time than I've taken in months.

Stayed up until 3:30 or so last night. After I was done working the pleasant contract job I'm on, I just goofed around for a few hours because I could. I don't do it often, but it was nice. Then this morning I awoke at 9 and thought, "What the hell. I'll stay up, get some stuff done, and go to bed early tonight." So I stayed up, got some stuff done, and I'm going to bed early.

Oh, some of the stuff I got done:

Made a lovely lentil-and-ham soup from the leftover ham, some lentils, a bay leaf, a tiny bit of crushed red pepper, a pinch of fines herbs, and some sherry.

Walked to Ashby BART flea market with [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy. We've decided we want to try to go to every BART station eventually, so we BARTed to North Berkeley and walked from there back home (another 3 miles or so), stopping on the way for shopping and lunch. I got [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy his xmas present, and we bought several books at rock-bottom prices. I got a Lynda Barry book, a book of Neil Gaiman's short stories, a Dorothy Allison, and I can't remember what else. Oh, and a Dar Williams CD at the thrift store for two dollars. The boy got a Capital Steps CD and I don't remember what else. It was cold and sunny out, and the walk was lovely, as was the cheap Chinese food we got at Long Life Vegi.

And now I shall grab a book, go to bed, and dream of what I know not. And then I will wake up and go hang with [livejournal.com profile] stonebender tomorrow. I was gonna do some more work, but I'm wiped, so off I go. It's a good life. Hope your weekend was lovely.
