1) The woman I relieve at work is out sick today. Today was to be her
official first day back. I hope she's okay, but I'm glad to have a quiet
day to myself. Nearly the whole staff is either out sick or still on
vacation, so it will be a verrrrry quiet day in which I hope to look for
contract gigs, finish writing the article I'm working on, and get some
downtime.

2) Fun time at [livejournal.com profile] loracs/[livejournal.com profile] stonebender/[livejournal.com profile] dbubley's
place last night, as usual. We played a new game, made failed fondue (I
say the fondue failed, but the experiment didn't, because it's important
to know what *doesn't* work, right?), and learned some good news from a
friend. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and made our evening good and
friendly and happy.

3) The geek at work is making me hungry telling me his leg of lamb recipe.
Oh, man.

I'm feeling lazy and cocoony today. Luckily, my job doesn't require much
of me, and I have a rule that if I'm being paid to be here, I'm not
*required* to get anything else done, as I'm meeting my making-a-living
responsibility. And tonight, a friend is coming over bearing food, so I
don't even have to cook tonight.

So what I'd like to know is this: What did you like about 2005?

It can be one thing or a list. It can be something about your life or the
world around you. Tell me good stuff, and then if you want, spread the
question around. If you don't wanna, don't. :-)

I think I'll go through my broadest friendslist (no filters) and answer
every single post, no matter what, until I'm burned out on it. Yep,
serene's gone crazy.

[Edit: Didn't take as long as I thought it might. No reflection on y'all, I'm just a puddle of unmotivation today.]

We met a nice Bedouin man at the Ashby flea market, and he's coming over
tonight to bring us Egyptian food. I think I shall stop at the Berkeley
Bowl on the way home and get dessert -- no, wait, I know! Bakesale Betty's
sticky date pudding. That was really good. Yes, that'll be perfect.

[Edit: I forgot Bakesale Betty's is closed unti the 13th or something. Berkeley Bowl is also closed. We'll see if Whole Foods is open, and if not, we'll just go to Safeway.]

Me, to myself:

"It would be fun to do an open-house thingy again."

"You're burned out and you have a novel to write. You don't need any more
social commitments right now."

"Yeah, but maybe a clothing exchange party?"

"You're burned out and you have a novel to write. You don't need any more
social commitments right now."

"Or maybe a monthly dinner party."

"You're burned out and you have a novel to write. You don't need any more
social commitments right now."

"Ooh, what would be *really* cool is to have a different monthly event
every week, on a rotating basis, and..."

"Listen, fuckwit. You're burned out and you have a novel to write. You
don't need any more social commitments right now."

From the [livejournal.com profile] altfriday5 (I must not have seen it on Friday):

1. Did you do anything new this past year that you had thought you
would never do? If yes, what was it?

I hadn't actually thought about it, so it's not that I thought I never
would, but more than once this past year, I made a three-figure hourly
salary.

2. Did you introduce someone to something new this past year that they
had thought they would never do? If yes, what was it?

I can't think of anything. My friends are an adventurous bunch.

3. What new things do you want to do in the new year?

Get a book published.

4. What new things would you like to introduce others (friends, family,
etc.) to in the new year?

Cocktail avocados!

5. So, nu?

God forbid!

The Questioner says: Don't forget your links!

Here are a few of the old [livejournal.com profile] altfriday5s, because I'm in the mood
to do surveys and that was a place to find them.
