Here it is, just for thoroughness's sake. )

You're very nifty, and I hope your day is, too!

Krull

Much as I think [livejournal.com profile] stonebender will groan and roll his eyes, I found "Krull" to be a fun, bad-in-a-good-way movie. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy for knowing I would like it. :-)

Doesn't hurt that I watched it while eating massive quantities of popcorn. That's always a good way to watch a bad movie.

Still feeling mildly hung over from the past week. The munchkins' dad needs a triple bypass, but his diabetes numbers are so high that they can't operate right now. I'm also having a difficult situation at home, whose details I don't want to talk about here (if you're one of those people I talk about this sort of thing with, I'd be okay with elaborating in email), but I don't mind saying it's causing me no small amount of brain drain.

Essentially, I feel like my mind is wrapped in gauze, because there's this problem I can't see a solution to, and there's this other problem whose solution depends on someone's doing something they don't want to do, and I just want my smart brain and emotional intelligence to be able to fucking SOLVE things, not just smoothe them over when they come up. It is *very* frustrating to be a person who feels pretty good at finding solutions, and then to come upon a problem that despite all efforts remains unsolved, or whose solution is different depending on whom you ask, or whose compromise solution feels better-than-nothing to some parties and worse-than-nothing to others.

(I know it would be easier if I talked about details, but y'all can't help me with the details. I just need to rant a little, and let folks know why I'm really not connected to my world and my friends at the moment.)

The list

Been making this list for more years than I can count, since long before there was such a thing as an LJ meme. Feel free to do it yourself if you want, because though I've met people who find it depressing, I've met more people who find it uplifting.

Five things... )

February 9th (this coming Thursday) will be Big Irreverent Fun. We're doing a pre-Valentine's Bad Love spoken-word thing. The flyer is at http://www.serenepages.org/bad-love-flyer.pdf , if you wanna see it. ([livejournal.com profile] badgerbag, lemme know if it's okay, 'kay?). Y'all should come, and bring your bad love poems, whatever that means to you. (Bad-love poems, bad love poems, whatever. Bring 'em. If you don't feel like reading yours, I'll have some for you to read. There will be prizes. People will laugh at your pain. It'll be fun.)

When I cook for myself, I don't have to worry about protein or carb balance, so I usually just grab whatever veggies are in the house and either eat them raw or cook them, as appropriate. Today, sauteed green beans, alongside a skillet of sweet potatoes and onions cooked in a little butter and oil. Yumma.

Just posted about polenta in [livejournal.com profile] cooking, and I thought I'd put it here for future reference.

[livejournal.com profile] stonebender had a brilliant idea. I've been fussing because I can often not remember the name of some artist/song that I liked on Pandora, and I was using the "favorites" page to list the songs I like best, but I've deleted those and now I'm using it as a place to keep track of the stuff I want to get acquainted with. It's way cool. Now I can print it out next time I go to the music store and get stuff I've been enjoying on Pandora. My love is a genius.

It's apparently my job today to make my boyfriends shake their heads and give me that "your kink is okay" look -- First, I liked Krull, and right now, I'm eating this beet soup, which is probably the foulest thing [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy can even imagine, because it's beets AND buttermilk AND sour cream. Poor darlings. They don't deserve to put up with this. ;-)

So first, I made a post, locked away from [livejournal.com profile] stonebender, about a party to rig his house for X-10 and organize his books, all as a birthday present from all of us.

Then he made this post and it turned out he's got the automation thing covered for now.

So let's party!

What: Birthday party for [livejournal.com profile] stonebender and [livejournal.com profile] loracs (they nearly share a b'day), along with a book-organizing work party!

When: Saturday, February 25th, 4pm - ? (Work begins at 4; dinner between 5 and 6, then we finish the organizing and schmooze until we go home.)

Where: [livejournal.com profile] stonebender/[livejournal.com profile] loracs/[livejournal.com profile] dbubley's place in San Leandro

RSVP: Either in comments or to serene@serenepages.org, but only if you need directions or have food issues -- we like finding ways around food issues -- or just want to let us know you'll be there
