Jul. 11th, 2008 09:19 amThere's a movie meme thingy going around, and I'm weary of bolded/italicized lists, but there were stories for two of the movies, so I'll post that instead.
ET: The Extraterrestrial: This is the only movie I ever remember going to with my family as a group. My mom and my two brothers and I stood in line for something like four hours. The theater had made an event of it. They'd even brought in this guy who was a locally famous mime and juggler to entertain the crowd, and they were passing out bottled water. I was around sixteen. I liked the movie, but didn't think it was as huge a deal as it was being made out to be. Still, it was An Event, and it was fun to have that memory to share with my siblings, who were 10 and 13 at the time.
Titanic: Never did see that. Didn't have any interest in seeing it in the theater, and then when my family rented it on video, they wanted me to come watch it with them. So I tore myself away from the computer, where I was nurturing a new love affair with TOTGA, and sat in the living room. I can still remember how fidgety and bored I was. I did not WANT to be watching a movie about love. I wanted to be down in the computer room talking about this new love experience I was having, with the person I was having it with. I think I lasted about 45 minutes. It was excruciating. I neglected my family a lot those nine months.
