Assume a spherical monkey.

(Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy for the link text, which totally cracks me up.)

Today was full of things that made my life harder, chief among them expensive and painful dental work. I need to not focus on that, though (and really, I'm in a fairly good mood, even if I do feel ouchy and swollen and worn out), so here's a list of things that made my life easier and better today:

1) Having dental insurance at all, so that my dental work is expensive rather than non-existant. Thank you, TRIO Program! (Also, thanks, TRIO Program, for a job that lets me stay home with no penalty if I have an ouchy face.)

2) The borrowed car, so that when I got too cold/tired/ouchy to deal with yet another bus ride today, I had the car as an option. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] dbubley/[livejournal.com profile] loracs/[livejournal.com profile] stonebender!

3) My mp3 player. Dental work is more pleasant if one can listen to Bløf and Wait Wait while it's happening. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy! (And while I'm at it, thanks for the extension cord for my headphones, so I can watch Stardust without bothering the teenager.)

4) Public transit. I didn't have to worry about parking or driving-while-ouchy today. This is a very good thing.

5) Overdraft protection. See "expensive dental work" above.

6) A high pain tolerance. See "painful dental work" above.

Another numbered list; can you see how much brainpower I don't have? :-)

1) Early next month, I have to attend a class on tubal ligation and Essure, even though they've already told me I exceed the weight limit for getting Essure, so ligation's my only sterilization option. Don't get me started on how fucking arbitrary and paternalistic that is. Or maybe yeah, get me started. I could use a chance to use my stompy boots today. Anyway, in a couple weeks, I'll take the class, and then as soon as they let me, I'll get my tubes tied. If you know me, you know this will make me very sad, even though it's exactly what I want to do. Be gentle with me if I get extra misty when we talk about your kids and your pregnancies and your grandkids and just kids in general, 'kay?

2) I'm working on my second website for the month. It's my first PHP/CSS integrated site, and I'm having fun and frustration learning to make the pages do what I want them to. For instance, right now the site works fine in Firefox but is blank in IE. This is just the kind of puzzle I love, until I overdose on frustration and want to quit. :-) Anyway, if you want to help me diagnose it, let me know; otherwise, just hang on a few days and I'll show you the working site. :-)

3) the femmy a-to-z thing that's going around, most recently seen at clever_doberman )

4) Tomorrow, work for a couple hours, then home to cook and clean until my fingers fall off. Then this weekend, other than (I assume) a visit with [livejournal.com profile] stonebender, I may not leave my house. I may not leave my BED. Downtime, downtime, downtime.
