Progress

Yesterday, I felt terrible all day (well, from about the time I left work in the pouring rain and slid on the wet sidewalk and twisted my broken foot; spent the rest of the day either grumpy or sick or crying or some combination of those things).

Today, I only felt terrible for half the day.

Progress, right?

Having trouble sleeping, so I may or may not go in to work tomorrow (I've warned my bosses). On the one hand, I do get sick pay and I haven't used much of it so far. On the other hand, I really love my job and hate missing work, even when I don't feel good.

*sigh*

(In yummier news, did you know that if you substitute bacon fat for the butter in your white bread recipe, and add some cheddar cheese and onions to the loaf, the loaf won't last for more than a couple hours?)

So it turns out I have a fairly severe vitamin D deficiency (normal range is 30-100 ng/mL; my level is 17). I know it means I'm sick and twisted, but I'm somehow more amused by telling people "I've got rickets", which, while technically true, is a terrible thing to be amused by, but I don't know, it's like I've developed scurvy or beri-beri, which I know, it's totally wrong to be amused by, too, but there you have it; I'm a bad person.

As a follow-up to my previous posts, and to answer some alarmed folks:

I've been on vitamin D therapy since I had my thyroid surgery, because the parathyroid, which is part of the whole vitamin D process in the body, is usually damaged at least a little during a thyroidectomy. I take vitamin D every day, but it's not enough just yet, so I'm going to be taking a massive dose (50 times my regular daily dose) once a week for six weeks, and then a higher dose than I've been taking, so that my levels come back up. The doctor doesn't sound worried, just proactive. He says it may help my fatigue and my brittle bones, so that's a big win right there, and it's always a relief to have a diagnosis with an easy fix.
