Nov. 28th, 2004 11:19 pmUpdate on the Xmas-decorations front:
sogwife knew I hadn't been planning to decorate for Christmas. This is for a few reasons: I didn't particularly want to put out the effort;
stonebender's place is sufficient; I have a couple of friends who actively dislike the whole Christmas thing; and I figured it would jangle at the Solstice party.
Anyway, she assumed I wouldn't want her to decorate our place, and this morning when she was jonesing to do so, I said "Sure! Go for it," surprising her. And then she did the sweetest thing -- she went out and bought *winter* themed stuff -- basically, blue lights and blue candle-holders, so the effect is going to be very pretty and not obnoxiously over-santa'd at all.
I have a really good sweetie.

Date: 2004-11-29 05:45 pm (UTC)I love the way my neighborhood looks with all the historic homes outlined in tiny white lights, so I'll spend some time next weekend untangling mine and hanging them on the porch and around the front windows.
I love the smell of evergreens indoors, so I'll drape my mantelpiece/altar with cedar boughs.
I love the small collection of ornaments I've accumulated over the years - some dating back to childhood - so I'll nestle them among the cedar, or pile them in a basket with pine cones and set it on the dining table.
I love candles, so I'll fill all my candle holders (well away from the greenery!)
I love opportunities for smooches, so I may hang some mistletoe from the living room ceiling fan. (-:
I'll skip the Santas and angels and baby Jesuses and snowmen, because none of that is especially meaningful to me.
What's interesting to me is that visitors seem to read their own traditions into all this. Those who do Christmas see Christmas decorations. Those who don't, see a Solstice/Yule/winter theme.
It's all good to me. (-:
