I wouldn't, she said,
and I didn't
mind
and she set me adrift
and she set me apart
and I wouldn't, she said,
and I didn't
listen
tell
because a word from her
a black look, a sullen gaze, her lip between her teeth
set me spinning
like some spinning thing
like some whirling person
a frenzy of arms and legs
without brakes
without pride
I wouldn't, she said,
until suddenly it clicked
until suddenly in me
there was a convergence of thoughts
a blending of ideas
and I realized that it was true
She wouldn't.
I would.
And there lay our end.
And there lay our
end.
I wouldn't, she said,
and I didn't
mind
and she set me adrift
and she set me apart
and I wouldn't, she said,
and I didn't
listen
tell
because a word from her
a black look, a sullen gaze, her lip between her teeth
set me spinning
like some spinning thing
like some whirling person
a frenzy of arms and legs
without brakes
without pride
I wouldn't, she said,
until suddenly it clicked
until suddenly in me
there was a convergence of thoughts
a blending of ideas
and I realized that it was true
She wouldn't.
I would.
And there lay our end.
And there lay our
end.
