I like the Ikea job fine. My feet, however, hate it. And I have two more days on them before a day off. Oy. By the end of the night, my sore feet were all I could think of. I wanted to go home so badly. Fortunately, I am so busy at that job that the time goes pretty quickly.

Some emotional baggage I've been dealing with lately had a perfect opportunity to kick my ass today, and it decided not to. In fact, where I held my breath and braced for possible bad feelings, there was nothing but peace and joy. I cannot tell you how nice that was. And yeah, if you think you know what I'm talking about, you're probably right.

Had a *wonderful* (if brief) time waking up with [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy, having breakfast (my first attempt at potato pancakes), and heading off to the Temescal Street Fair, which was nicer than last year's (I missed last year's, but he went). It is so good when I have time to just spend one-on-one time with my sweeties. It was only an hour or so, but it was restorative, as it often is. A lot of smooching, a lot of laughing. I like our life. We chose a street fair over sex -- does this mean we're married? ;-)

Have been able to reconnect some with [livejournal.com profile] lcohen lately, at least in email, and hope to do the same with my other friends. This week may not be in the cards, though, as Ikea has me working five long days this week, and I need -- no, *require* -- the other two days to spend with my sweeties.

Happy Father's Day to those who celebrate it.

i worked at a job that had me on my feet for eight hours a day, and here are the two things i learned. a) wear the most comfortable shoes you can manage. b) it will not always hurt this much; you get used to it.

the shoes nurses buy tend to be excellent

but SAS brand, of all the many i've tried, and I've had 14 hour a day, on my feet jobs, plus i'm overweight, are the BEST

Thanks! I was just going to ask for recommendations. My mom has offered to buy me a pair of shoes as an early birthday present.

Thanks, sweetie. I keep hearing this, so I'm choosing to believe it will get better. I'm not sure, but it may already be getting better. (Not sure because I'm not sure if it's hurting less or I'm getting slightly inured to it -- it used to be four hours into a shift before I felt I just could not go on, and now it's six or seven hours, though the pain is pretty bad the whole time.)

This is going to be kind of a dopey story, but ... OK, yesterday we were getting a ride home from a party, and the friend who was giving us a ride said to hold on, she had to make space in her car because she had been to (what sounded to me like) "a kia". And when she was dropping us off she said she was sorry she had gotten to the party so late, that it was because she had been to a kia. Had I ever been to a kia?

I said that I didn't know what a "kia" was (my guess was some kind of spiritual event), and, well, she showed me an Ikea catalog that had been on the floor of her car. *OH*, I said, I had always assumed that that store was pronounced "eye-KAY-uh".

With some of my shoes that have hard or flat soles I've gotten some of those padded insoles with arch support from the grocery or drug store, which has made them much more comfortable.

Anyway, I'm glad things are going well.

At work, they pronounce it "eye-KEE-uh". Thanks for the advice. I'm used to wearing my Birkenstocks, and closed-toed shoes just seem to kill my feet, but I'm going to try different things while my feet get used to all this abuse. I'll get insoles as soon as I can.

As soon as the household can afford it, get yourself a pair of Z-Coils. [livejournal.com profile] yohannon swears he would never have survived his latest foray into retail without them.

Oh, it would never pass dress-code muster, but thanks!

When we got mine, I was actually told that they can put the closed heels (as seen on the workboots on the website) on any of the base models for an extra $10, if that's the issue.

I'm told it's about two weeks of agony with the feet, and then better.

Please take care of yourself when not working! Foot massages are good--if you don't have any massagers handy, I'll drop by.

The way I figure it, I'm committed to this job through the summer sale (July 4), which is about 2.5 weeks on my feet. If it's not better by then, if I'm still in terrible pain all day, I'll give notice. Also, mom is buying me shoes. And I meant to make a fresh post about this, and may still, but I had my very first ever successful footrub the other day, and I'm pretty jazzed about this. Until now, no one has been able to touch my feet without risking a kick to the head. But thanks for the offer!
