...[livejournal.com profile] loracs and [livejournal.com profile] stonebender are the BEST. They took us to Ikea in their ailing van so we could spend employee-discount-day bucks on trashy meatballs and the following:

pantry (Ours is white, and yes, I know it's technically a wardrobe, but it's perfect for what we wanted.)
five bookcases
four teacup/saucer sets
spiced cider for t-day
three DVD racks
magazine rack
bedsheets, towels, shower curtain, and plant saucers for [livejournal.com profile] sogwife
Swedish fishes!
more of our square plates
two spatulas
the most bee-yoo-tee-full duvet-cover set ever

I think that's all, but it might not be. I think this may be the first time I've shopped with those two and outspent them. ;-) (I believe our total was around three times theirs. Oy.) And I think [livejournal.com profile] stonebender and I were neck-and-neck earlier today when we went bookshop-crawling, because my one book cost $20, a rare splurge for me.
Seriously, the most money I've spent in a very long time. On lots of stuff we've been putting off. It feels weird, but it feels good. We saved up for weeks, and I'm so glad we did. It will make things so much easier to have enough storage space in this place. Yay!

sounds like a fun shopping trip!! i love getting new storage space like that, it's so fun to organize everything, then when you wander through your apartment, it's like a little present every day for months seeing your new stuff and how nice everything looks :)

Shopping: Entertainment or Chore?

I say entertainment, and definitely counts as exercise! Thanks for the use of your big discount tonight. [livejournal.com profile] dbubley liked the long towel I got her and really loved the big cups and saucers. Now I want to make soup just so I can use them. And my toes are all snuggly in the little slippers.

The pantry looks good. I saw this segment a few nights ago on a DIY show where they tore up sheet music, glued it to this table and then put shellac on it. You said white wasn't your favorite color, so what if you glue food pictures from cookbooks all over it. Not your cool new book you just got, but I bet you could find cheap used cookbooks. I may even have one or two I wouldn't mind donating to the cause. They used a yellowish shellac to give it an old feel. You could go either way. Just saying

Yeah, you out spent us tonight, but if we had found dining room chairs we liked . . . we would have had to make TWO trips!

Did you say "long towel"? how long is long?

It's a little more than hand towel width but about a yard long. At least that's what I seem to remember. And it's a nice bathroom towel material. With her short arms she uses it as a extra long hand towel but it's not as bulky as a regular towel. If you want exact dimensions I can measure it tomorrow.

That gives me a good idea, thanks!

(I have a couple of those made of pairs of hand towels I sewed together.)

I think I saw that episode, and they did the shellac and then tinted the whole thing kinda yellow.

I may have a book or two to donate to the cause!

and outshopping loracs is no small feat!
