Nov. 9th, 2006 02:53 pmNot only didn't I get the job, but I saw all four members of the hiring committee today, two of whom are my friends, and none of them told me I hadn't gotten the job. Instead, I found out when I got home, via email.
*sigh* They're under no obligation to tell me to my face, but this is just another reason I want to crawl in a hole in a people-free environment for a while.

Date: 2006-11-10 12:02 am (UTC)With the work/private split I was getting at the whole business of not telling someone they didn't get the job in a situation that isn't private, ie, if there are people there other than those directly involved in the hire because it's a social or other event, not a hire related event. As I mentioned, there is nothing precluding someone from taking a person aside and having a quiet word.

Date: 2006-11-09 11:26 pm (UTC)*smacks hiring committee upside their collective head with large three-day-old dead fish*
That indeed sucks. It's uncomfortable to have to tell a friend bad news, but decency should win out over discomfort.
