"Decorators"
Jan. 17th, 2007 12:11 amIt's a ten-letter word.
It's a fucking ROCKING ten-letter word.
The web version of Bookworm doesn't *accept* ten-letter words (9+, actually).

Date: 2007-01-17 09:16 am (UTC)I've had similar problems with Bookworm before, and also get cross with its US-centric vocabulary which won't accept some perfectly everyday Anglo words. Especially when they're 7 or 8 letter words using Difficult Letters.
IOW, I feel your pain.

Date: 2007-01-17 05:35 pm (UTC)What I want (and would pay for) is a version that lets me alter the dictionary -- I mean, I'm playing against myself; I should get to say if a word is good or not.

Date: 2007-01-17 05:46 pm (UTC)bonus_word_dictionary.txt
popdefs.txt
wordlist.txt
The last one (wordlist.txt) contains one entry per line and a total of 151,477 lines. I suspect that's the dictionary the game uses. Adding words to that might well work.

Date: 2007-01-17 05:53 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, I also grabbed Bookworm Adventures, and it doesn't look like it has a similar feature. :(

Date: 2007-01-17 06:45 pm (UTC)I have to admit though, that I've run into many more words that it does accept that I had no idea were words (unfortunately it seems they are often words that they don't show a definition for and I'm too lazy to look them up myself.)

Date: 2007-01-17 04:38 pm (UTC)It doesn't accept "Jointier" either.
"Text Twist" is the new poison of choice, by the way. Be prepared to be frustrated at its dictionary, too.

absurdist blowhardisms
Date: 2007-01-17 04:38 pm (UTC)Why the bookworm doesn't accept the masculine form is it's own hangup. Ever since I tried helping pac-man overcome his oral fixation, I don't headshrink video games anymore. There was a negative reaction to one of his medications and he thought I turned blue and started biting me. Fortunately this only lasted about 20 seconds.
Re: absurdist blowhardisms
Date: 2007-01-17 05:33 pm (UTC)(No, it said, essentially, "Buy the paid version, and you can use words over 8 letters; isn't that great?")
