[I meant to filter this to folks I know are local to me (which is what I usually do), but I forgot and ended up finding out that a friend of a lovely friend is a potential drop-in, so I'm leaving this unfiltered. I will filter the notices if they're more frequent than every month or so.]

Periodically, I post some version of this message, and it's been a while.

We like visitors, and we like feeding people. Most evenings (except Saturdays), we have dinner at 7pm, and we're happy to have you (and anyone you want to bring along) here for dinner with us. Call if you like (phone number in email if you need it), or drop in without calling (directions in email if you don't already have them).

Food is often vegetarian/vegan, but not always.

After dinner, we usually take a walk (a mile or so round trip), and you're welcome to come with us or stay on the sofa with the non-walkers and schmooze. If there are leftovers, we'll probably try to send you home with some. You don't have to bring anything, but if you do, we'll thank you and set it out for everyone to share.

Access notes: There are steps into our apartment. If this is a barrier for you, pick a warm evening to come, and we'll happily tote the food to the nice little park across the street. We have no pets, and run a low-scent household, but we're not completely scent-free. We use fluorescent lighting almost exclusively, but can switch to incandescent with a day's notice.

Edit: Allergy notes: I cook most of our food from scratch, so if I know about your food issues, I'm happy to work around them. Not grudgingly happy, either. I love the challenge. Yes, even yours.

So if you're ever at loose ends some evening in the East Bay, feel free to stop by. We'd love to see you.

I would like to do a drop-in at some point, and possibly one or more of my partners, if they'd be welcome (and they're vegetarian, so this would be great for them). My only concern is the mushroom and wheat factor. So maybe I will come, but call first to see what's cooking.

I like this idea. Very cheery, and welcoming. Thanks for the invitation!

I do very much love cooking within food boundaries, so you can either take your chances, call first, or let me know in advance, and I'd be happy to fix something y'all can eat. (And if you take your chances, I can always whip up some polenta and tomato sauce for the no-mushroom-no-wheat crowd. There's always polenta and tomato sauce around. :-)

Thanks, it's very sweet to receive such an invite. I don't think you know me well, but [livejournal.com profile] pameladean once tried to get me invited to your birthday party. I am usually very local to you, but I'm in Minneapolis for the summer, at least. I'll probably be back in your neighborhood in September or so.

I actually forgot to filter this post to people I knew were local, and now I'm glad I did. I shall leave it unfiltered to see if any *other* cool people come up. :-) Enjoy Minnesota, and do drop in if you're ever in the neighborhood.

What a lovely invitation, especially the thoughtfulness of the final paragraph, hope many local people get to enjoy your company :)

I would love anything you cook, and have no allergy issues whatsoever.

I have no food allergies, either (lucky me!), but I do love the challenge of it when someone says "Oh, no gluten and no nightshades, please!" :-)

You've been to gatherings at my house, so you know I love that challenge, too. :) I think the satisfaction lies in being able to feed my friends food that won't kill them or make them really sick, and the level of trust they display in being relaxed about eating what I provide for them. Taking that whole nurturing thing to a new level.

And I promise that will be the extent of my navel-gazing for today! ;-)

if you do filter this to bay-area people, I'd love to be added. don't live there, but I expect to visit several times a year, and I'd love to drop in sometime. plus, M needs to make friends in the area. thanks!! *hugs*

I haven't been in the Bay Area in a long time, and don't know when I'm likely to be again, but this is a kind and generous offer--including your willingness to switch light bulbs if asked. (I do okay with compact fluorescents, and in fact use them in my own home these days, but have had trouble with the old-fashioned long tube kind.)

I think it's excellent that the technology has changed so that fluorescents are less obnoxious to you (and, presumably, others).

If a person were going to drop by for dinner, and wanted to bring a food or beverage present (to be eaten that night or another night), what sorts of things would be most appreciated? (This comes up in advice columns sometimes, but I would rather go straight to the cook.)

Oh, goodness. Let me think. Well, we usually don't have much that is dessert-ish around, so I guess if a person wanted something sweet, a person might want to bring that along?

That is lovely. Hopefully I'll be in the Bay Area someday.

I hope so, too. :-)

Someday we will have to meet you in person, we're technically local and have never been up your way. Might have to bring our own food though, considering my onion allergies and how so many things contain onions nowadays.

Date: 2007-07-06 03:13 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] serenejournal.livejournal.com
You're welcome to either bring your own food, or give me a heads-up before you come so I can make sure there are no onions. Since I cook almost everything from scratch, that's something I can easily control.

This sounds absolutely lovely. And I was thinking how I'd love to drop in for dinner sometime, when I realized that it's not possible. I'm never home from work before 8PM, on any work night. On Sunday nights, I have chorus rehearsal - every week, without fail. That leaves only Saturday night - the night you don't do it!

I really have to find work closer to home!

You should also drop by after work some time if you have enough energy left and feel like watching bad movies with us (and/or eating leftovers and/or popcorn). :-)

Also, the offer is open for Saturdays (not for everyone, but for you, 'cause the other days won't ever work for you) if you're willing to schlep to [livejournal.com profile] stonebender's house in San Leandro.
