I have the best boyfriends ever, seriously.

Today, after my rollercoaster of heart stuff, I went over to [livejournal.com profile] stonebender's, where he joined me in being total slugs -- we played around on the internet, I napped, we watched a little TV, and we ate yummy high-fat foods. It was lovely.

And while I was gone, [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy set up the new computers our boss bought us -- I am typing this now on the Ubuntu partition of the dual-boot Ubuntu/XP box that is my new best friend. I am so excited.

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] pleonastic -- okay if I bug you later this weekend some time about gnus and stuff?

What a really really good day I've had.

1) I am breaking [livejournal.com profile] nooks's rule for a second to say "I haven't been not-blogging because nothing is going on, or because things are going on, or because things are rough or easy or happy or sad -- just because I haven't felt like it."

2) Had the heart scan thingy. It was interesting, and I may make a post about it later. I have a medical appointment on the 29th to talk about it.

3) The visit to mom's was better than last time. LOTS. First of all, my mom is doing well, and wasn't in the hospital. Second, the sibling I can't seem to get along with made herself scarce. Third, I saw most of my beloved relatives. Fourth, there was real Mexican food. Lots of it.

4) I will have exciting news in a day or two. Sharpen your pencils, writers and artists!

If I tried to tell you how very tired I am right now, emotionally, I don't think I could do it. Long day in which I worked both in and out of the home, committed to an exciting but intense new project, agreed to consider taking on another part-time job, spent a long time with a Munchkin who has decided that going home to San Diego to try to finish out high school there is what he wants to do, and somehow managed to see a movie on opening day, though I almost never do (Harry Potter).

I would sleep, but the munchkin is only here until Friday night, and I want to spend some more time with him.

Speaking of Friday night, if you're free to come to game night at [livejournal.com profile] sogwife's, you can meet the munchkin and play some board/card/dice/strategy/roleplaying games, depending on what people want to do.

Good stuff today:
  • Work is going really well. I know what I'm doing; I'm doing it well; I'm caught up on the things that need to be caught up on; the problem client is happy with me.
  • My kitchen is clean enough. For the past week, it's looked like mad gerbils set upon it and threw everything everywhere. Now I can cook in there without feeling grossed out.
  • [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy brought me fun/interesting food: the slightly spicy coleslaw from Bakesale Betty, and some gluten-free coffee cake (yum) from the Mariposa
  • After months of intending to join GreenCine, I finally did it. Only two at a time, but added to Netflix, that'll be 5 total, and GreenCine has a better selection of old schlock, as well as porn, which Netflix doesn't offer. I've never seen some of the classic porn films (Debbie Does Dallas, Deep Throat, etc.), so it'll be fun to check them out.

Hard/bad stuff today:
  • Still feeling a bit off. If it lasts longer than today, I'll have trouble attributing it to Tuesday night's almost-migraine. My thyroid thing hurts; I have a strange, disconnected feeling all over; I keep wanting to go lie down.
  • Must've thrown an oily potholder in with the laundry. One load now smells like stale cooking oil. *sigh*
  • Still not king

Calling all geeks: I'm researching a software need for work. You remember in the old days before YouTube, when people wanted to share video content on the web, they would put something up that was copy-protected, and you would have to download a special player, and the player would have copy protection in the form of some sort of licensing/password admin? (Put another way, the video could be played by me on my machine with my password/IP/whatever, but I couldn't just email the video to you so you could see it -- you'd have to buy/rent/license it too.)

I know that stuff must still exist, but I don't know what any of it is called, and I could use some narrowing terms for my search, as you can imagine that the lion's share of the websearch hits for "copy protection" are talking about legal battles.

Any ideas?

I have been SO freaking busy with my fun new job (I'm working part-time for my brother-out-law's company, in addition to all the contract work I was already doing) that I've been essentially absent from here. I'm taking a quick break, though, to post a few little notes:

1) [livejournal.com profile] sogwife rocks. Not only is she Snow Fucking White (a *chicken* followed her home yesterday), but she rescued all my plants from my horrid neglect the other day. She trimmed them, watered them, cleaned them, and set them back in their windowsills. She even did the outside ones. Now to see if I can start treating them better. My house has basically gone to shit the past week while I've been riding my new learning curve (which also involves some NP(roject)E), but today I am trying to whip it back into shape.

2) I like "Heroes" more and more, and "Studio 60" less and less.

3) I forgot to post the funniest line at last week's slam. The guy who won actually had a line in one of his poems about Blackbeard coming back from the dead. The phrase he used that just dissolves me and [livejournal.com profile] someotherguy into giggles, though, was the unfortunate "disembodied corpse". WTF?

4) Worst slogan ever, on the wall of one of our favorite Thai places, Tuk Tuk Thai (a tuk tuk is one of these): "Tuk Tuk Thai: Let us drive you to a good Thai cafe"
