I had a bookalicious day today. I met [livejournal.com profile] stonebender for our periodic Library Day, and then we went bookstore-crawling. I picked up the following, and the ones I spent money on cost me only about $20 total.

From the library:

Las Fiestas de Frida y Diego: Recuerdos y Recetas (Frida and Diego's Parties: Memories and Recipes) -- The pictures are beautiful, and I think it would be fun to try to cook from Spanish recipes

The Pressured Cook (pressure-cooker recipes)

Miss Manners' Guide to Excruciatingly Correct Behavior

Teach Yourself Esperanto: A Complete Course for Beginners

From Other Change of Hobbit:

Farthing

From Half Price Books:

What Would Betty Do? How to Succeed at the Expense of Others in This World and the Next (Betty Bowers)

Wild in the Kitchen: Recipes for Wild Fruits, Weeds, and Seeds

Cooking with Gluten and Seitan

The Heartsong Tofu Cookbook (adorable 1977 hand-lettered cookbook that includes recipes and diagrams for making one's own tofu)

Not Milk... Nut Milks!

Recipe Keeper -- a pretty binder with sheets to fill with my mom's recipes, then send the book to her as a gift.

I am happy. Book lust is, for the moment, satiated.

On a break from doing the first pass on my project. This is my second break this evening -- the first was for an earthquake. [livejournal.com profile] mactavish, thank you so much for the "Did you feel it?" site. It's the first thing I do after the shaking stops.

Today was lovely. My prescription for stress-free shopping in late December is to get you a cute boy and go to independent bookstores. Trust me, you won't have to fight crowds, and if you pick independent bookstores near public transportation, you won't have to fight traffic, either. And you'll get nifty recommendations.

Oh, and speaking of bookstores, I totally scored. I got Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World for less than half price! I feel some guilt when I buy books at discount prices, but I think Isa would approve. She's just that punk. And hey, looks like there'll be vegan cupcakes at Serene's house from now on.

Dinner was good, if silly. I'll probably post about it over on [livejournal.com profile] serenecooking.

Back to work in a few. I have so much working energy in the evening; this may be the number-one plus to the working-at-home thing.

I was pretty sure I wouldn't have read many of them. I was right. )

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] kismet09, who got it from [livejournal.com profile] firecat, who got it from someone who got it from The Big Read: "In April the BBC's Big Read began the search for the nation's best-loved novel, and we asked you to nominate your favourite books. The votes poured in from all around the UK and here's the results!"

The ones I've read are bolded; the ones I started but didn't make it through are italicized. )

Oh, my.
